وُقيتَmay you be spared بِيَthrough me الرَدىdeath زِدنيgive me more قُيوداfetters
وَثَنِّand strike again عَلَيَّupon me سَوطاًa whip أَوor عَموداa club
May you be spared death through me; give me more fetters.
I was left to face adversity, give me more shackles
May I be your ransom from death; increase my chains,
And strike me again with a whip or a club.
And lash me with a whip or pillar
And double the lash or the rod against me.
وَوَكِّلand appoint بيover me وَبِالأَبوابِand at the doors دونيbefore me
مِنَfrom among الرُقَباءِthe guards شَيطاناًa devil مَريداrebellious
And set over me, and at the doors before me,
And station guards outside my door
Assign over me, and at the doors confining me,
A rebellious devil from among the guards.
Appointing over me a stubborn devil
A rebellious demon from among the guards.
وَأَعفِand spare مَسامِعِmy ears مِنfrom صَوتِthe voice of رِجسٍa vile man
ثَقيلٍburdensome شَخصُهُhis presence يُدعىis called سَعيداSa'id
And spare my ears the voice of a vile man,
And spare my ears the sound of a heavy impurity
But spare my hearing from the voice of that wretch,
Whose presence is burdensome, and who is called Sa'id.
Whose person is called Sa'eed
Of oppressive presence, the one called Sa'id.
فَقَدfor indeed تَرَكَhe has made الحَديدَthe iron عَلَيَّupon me ريشاًfeathers
وَأَوقَرَand has laden بُغضُهُhatred of him قَلبيmy heart حَديداiron
For he has turned the iron upon me into feathers,
For he has left the iron upon me as but a feather
For he has rendered the iron upon me light as feathers,
And hatred of him has laden my heart with iron.
And his hatred has weighed down my heart like iron
While loathing him has weighed down my heart like iron.
