وَلِذاand to this الرِدفِrump الوَثيرِsoft
Say to this handsome face,
Say to that radiant face
Say to this face, so fresh and fair,
And to this soft rump,
And to that ample hip
And to this form, so soft and lush,
وَلِمِغلاقِand to the lock of هُموميmy worries
وَلِمِفتاحِand to the key of سُروريmy joy
And to the lock that shuts away my worries,
And to the lock of my worries
And to the bolt that bars my grief,
And to the key to my joy,
And to the key to my joys
And to the key of my delight,
وَالَّذيand the one who يَبخَلُwithholds عَنّيfrom me
بِقَليلٍwith a little مِنfrom كَثيرِmuch
And to him who withholds from me
He who is miserly with me
To him who plays the miser’s part,
A little out of much:
With little of much
Withholding little from so much,
ياO صَغيرَyoung in السِنِّage وَالمَوand birth (word begins)
لِدِbirth (word ends) فيin عَقلِthe mind of الكَبيرِa grown man
O you, young in age and bir-
O little of age and death
O you, of young and tender age,
th, yet with the mind of a grown man,
Born in the mind of the elder
Yet bearing an elder's mind within,
وَقَليلاًand seldom فيin التَلاقيmeeting
وَكَثيراًand often فيin الضَميرِthe inner thoughts
And seldom met,
And little in meetings
So scarce in granting me a tryst,
Yet often in my thoughts:
And much in conscience
Yet ever dwelling in my soul,

دِكَyour servant (word ends) فيover خَطبٍa matter يَسيرِtrifling
Why did you grow angry with the ser-
Why did you get angry with your
Why have you raged against your slave,
vant of yours over a trifling matter?
Servant over trivial matters
Over a matter slight and small?
فَاِرضَso be pleased عَنّيwith me بِحَياتيby my life
ياO حَياتيmy life وَأَميريand my prince
So be pleased with me, by my life,
So be satisfied with me, by my life
Relent, I pray, by my own life,
O my life and my prince.
O my life and my prince
O life of mine, my prince and lord.
