And I make my soul hear from you what it does not hear:

Your saying to me, 'Rejoice!'—so it is pleased and content.

Willingly accept the hopes bestowed on you,

For I have no escape from you except through hopes.

When a stupor of death shrouds me,

Hopes shine forth before it, and it clears away.

Who, then, can do for me what hopes do

When death casts its shadow over me?

For this I shall praise hopes as long as I live,

Even if lovers overlook that and neglect it.
