يَقولُsays الناسُthe people قَدindeed تُبتَyou have repented
وَلاbut no وَاللَهِby God ماnot تُبتُI have repented
People say, “You have repented.”
People say I have repented
People say that I have repented,
But no—by God, I have not repented.
By God, I have not repented
But no, by God, I have not repented.
فَلاso not أَترُكُI give up تَقبيلَkissing
خُدودِcheeks المُردِthe beardless youths ماas long as عِشتُI live
So I will not give up kissing
I will not stop kissing
I shall not give up kissing
the cheeks of beardless youths as long as I live.
The cheeks of the boy as long as I live
The cheeks of beardless youths as long as I live.
أَرىI see المُردَthe beardless youths يَميلونَthey incline
لِمِثليtoward one like me حَيثُماwherever مِلتُI turn
I see the beardless youths inclining
I see the boys inclining
For I see the youths inclining
toward one like me, wherever I turn.
Towards the likes of me wherever I turn
Towards the likes of me, wherever I turn.
