If a camel enters—the ending of my restraint [wording unclear]—

From tawny wine—into the eye of a needle.

If you keep watch at a frontier, then leave me:

Let my watch be in a wine-seller’s house.

And make the pilgrimage if you wish, for my pilgrimage

Is to drink wine from bowls.

Watered wine that takes my cares away

And revives my vigor after my dejection.

With wine we have no need of anything else,

Nor of fucking whores, thanks to sodomy.

The pool of the reckless, wily rogue like me

Casts a veil where wine is drunk from bowls.

A generous man passes us the wineglass,

Gentle in his coquetry—blessed be such a cup-giver!

I say to him in ecstasy, “Sodomize me,

Even through a hired, burly Nabataean.”

    For wine tastes pleasant only

Amid the filth of sexual impurity and sodomy.

And tell the five prayers: our final meeting,

If it ever happens, will be on the Sirat.

For I have already made pilgrimage my uncle,

And in Qutrabbul my watch remains forever.
