عَدَّيتُI diverted عَنكِaway from you بِمَنطِقيwith my speech فَعَداكاso it passed you by
عَدَّيتُ عَنكِ بِمَنطِقي فَعَداكا
وَشَكَوتُand I complained of غَيرَكَsomeone other than you إِذwhen رَأَيتُI perceived هَواكاyour love
وَشَكَوتُ غَيرَكَ إِذ رَأَيتُ هَواكا
I steered my words away from you, so they passed you by.
I diverted my speech away from you, so it passed you by,
And I complained of another when I perceived your love.
And I complained of another when I beheld your love,
عَرَّضتُI hinted بِالشَكوىthrough complaint لِغَيرِكَat someone other than you شُبهَةًambiguity
عَرَّضتُ بِالشَكوى لِغَيرِكَ شُبهَةً
وَكَنَيتُand I spoke indirectly عَنكَabout you وَماand not أُريدُI intend سِواكاanyone but you
وَكَنَيتُ عَنكَ وَما أُريدُ سِواكا
I hinted at another in my complaint, to create ambiguity,
I directed my complaint toward someone else as a ruse,
And spoke of you indirectly, though I meant none but you.
And spoke of you allusively, though I desire none but you.
