اللَهُGod مَولىprotector دَنانيرٍDananir وَمَولائيand my protector
بِعَينِهِunder His eye مَصبَحيmy morning فيهاconcerning her وَمَمسائيand my evening
God is Dananir's protector and mine;
God is the Master of my dinars and my Master
God is the Master of Dananeer, and my Master too,
under His eye are my mornings and evenings of love for her.
With His eyes my morning in which I rise and my evening
Under His watchful eye are my mornings and evenings spent in her thrall.
صَليتُI have burned مِنfrom حُبِّهاlove for her نارَينِtwo fires واحِدَةًone
بَينَbetween الضُلوعِthe ribs وَأُخرىand another بَينَamong أَحشائيmy entrails
From love of her, I have burned in two fires: one
I suffered from love of Her two fires, one
I have burned with two fires from her love: one
between my ribs, and another amid my entrails.
Between my ribs and another between my intestines
Raging between my ribs, and another deep within my vitals.
وَقَدand indeed حَمَيتُI restrained لِسانيmy tongue أَنto أُبينَmake clear بِهِwith it
فَماso not يُعَبِّرُexpresses عَنّيon my behalf غَيرُother than إيمائيmy gestures
And I have restrained my tongue from revealing my love;
And I've burnt my tongue from explaining with it
I have guarded my tongue from revealing a single word,
so nothing speaks for me but my gestures.
So nothing expresses me but my gestures
So that nothing speaks for me now except my silent signs.
ياO وَيحَalas for أَهلِيَmy family أَبلىI waste away بَينَbefore أَعيُنِهِمtheir eyes
عَلىon الفِراشِthe bed وَماand not يَدرونَthey know ماwhat دائيmy ailment
Alas for my family! I waste away before their eyes,
Oh woe to my family! I've wasted away before their eyes
Alas for my kin! I waste away before their very eyes,
on the bed, while they do not know what ails me.
On the mattress and they don't know what my illness is
Upon my bed, while they know not what my ailment is.
لَوif كانَwere زُهدُكِyour renunciation فيin الدُنياthe world كَزُهدُكِlike your renunciation فيin
وَصليunion with me مَشَيتِyou would walk بِلاwithout شَكٍّdoubt عَلىon الماءِwater
If your renunciation of the world were like your renunciation of
If your asceticism in the world were like your asceticism in
If your renunciation of the world matched your renunciation of
union with me, you would surely walk on water.
Uniting with me I would undoubtedly walk on water
My embrace, you would surely walk upon the water.
