فيin حرِcunt of أمّmother of الدهرTime أيضاًtoo
في حرِ أمّ الدهر أيضاً
حينwhen صارbecame الرأسُthe chief فيضاFayd
حين صار الرأسُ فيضا
In the cunt of Time's mother, too,
Even in the heat of time's noon
Deep in the cursed womb of Time as well,
when Fayd became the chief.
When my hair turned white
When the head became a flooding wash of white,
ذهبَdeparted المحُّthe yolk فأبقىand left الدthe (beginning of 'Time')
ذهبَ المحُّ فأبقى الد
دهرُTime (continued) غِرقئاan egg's inner membrane وقَيضاand an eggshell
دهرُ غِرقئا وقَيضا
The yolk departed, and Time left
Love left, leaving nostalgia
The yolk has vanished, and Fate has left behind
an egg's inner membrane and shell.
Time passed steeped in yearning
Only a membrane and a hollow shell.
لنwill not يعودreturn العرفُgenerosity أوuntil ترbrood (beginning)
لن يعود العرفُ أو تر
خمbrood (continued) تحتbeneath الفيلِthe elephant بَيضاeggs
خم تحت الفيلِ بَيضا
Generosity will not return until you brood
The meadow will not return, nor will
The rooster’s crest returns not, nor will she
eggs beneath the elephant.
The white tent beneath the howdah lean
Brood on her eggs beneath the elephant.
فلعلّso perhaps اللَهGod أنthat يجmake (beginning)
فلعلّ اللَه أن يج
عَلَmake (continued) للمعروفِfor generosity حوضاa basin
عَلَ للمعروفِ حوضا
So perhaps God will
But perhaps God will appoint
Perhaps the Lord may yet ordain and make
make a basin for generosity.
For kindness a clear pond
A reservoir where kindness may reside.
