جَفنُ عَيني قَد كادَ يَس

جَفنُ عَيني قَد كادَ يَس

قُطُ مِن طولِ ما اِختَلَج

قُطُ مِن طولِ ما اِختَلَج

My eyelid has almost fal-

My eyelids have nearly withered

My eyelid has all but drop-

len from twitching so long.

From the length of torment they've suffered

-ped from its incessant twitching,

وَفُؤادي مِن حَرِّ حُب

وَفُؤادي مِن حَرِّ حُب

بِكِ وَالهَجرِ قَد نَضَج

بِكِ وَالهَجرِ قَد نَضَج

And my heart, from the heat of love

And my heart from the heat of love for you

And my heart, from the fire of lov-

for you and of estrangement, is cooked through.

And separation has ripened

-ing you and loss, is fully scorching.

خَبِّريني فَدَتكِ نَف

خَبِّريني فَدَتكِ نَف

سي وَأَهلي مَتى الفَرَج

سي وَأَهلي مَتى الفَرَج

Tell me—may you be ransomed by my sou-

Tell me, my soul and family ransom you

Tell me—may I sacrifice my sou-

l and my family—when will relief come?

When will there be relief?

-l and my kin—when is relief approaching?

كانَ ميعادُنا خُرو

كانَ ميعادُنا خُرو

جَ زِيادٍ وَقَد خَرَج

جَ زِيادٍ وَقَد خَرَج

Our appointed time was the depart-

Our rendezvous was to go out after Increase

Our promise was set on the leav-

ure of Ziyad, and he has departed.

And Increase has gone out

-ing of Ziyad, and he is leaving.

أَنتِ مِن قَتلِ عائِذٍ

أَنتِ مِن قَتلِ عائِذٍ

بِكِ في أَضيَقِ الحَرَج

بِكِ في أَضيَقِ الحَرَج

You, for killing one who seeks refuge

You’re the refuge from killing the desperate

You, for slaying one seeking ref-

in you, are in the direst straits.

In direst strait

-uge in you, stand in direst trespassing.
