The gardens I desired have lost their appeal,
Jinan renounced the love for which my soul toward her yearned,
my soul longed for from her.
Though once my soul yearned for them and their feel.
So I renounced the world, and to the grave my longing turned.

So I renounced the world, and
So now I spurn this world and all its gloss,
I hid myself so that her eye would not perceive me, and stilled my voice,
my wish became to visit my grave.
My end is coming soon, that I can tell.
Lest the sound of my stirring should alarm that lovely face.

And I hid myself, lest
I shut my eyes lest hers upon me dwell,
her eye see me, and I silenced my voice,
And hush my voice, her lovely face to bless.
