إِنَّindeed اِسمَthe name حُسنٍHusn (beauty) لِوَجهِهاfor her face صِفَةٌa description
وَلاand not أَرىI see ذاthis فيin غَيرِهاanyone other than her اِجتَمَعاthe two united
Indeed, the name Husn—“Beauty”—describes her face.
The name Husn describes her beauty truly
The name 'Husn' is truly a description of her face,
And I see these two united in no one else.
And I see no other who such grace can claim
A union of traits I see gathered in no one else.
فَهيَso she إِذاwhen سُمِّيَتshe is named فَقَدthen indeed وُصِفَتshe has been described
فَيَجمَعُthus combines اللَفظُthe word مَعنَيَينِtwo meanings مَعاtogether
So when she is named, she has thereby been described.
So when she's named, she's also described
Thus, whenever she is named, she is described,
Thus the word combines two meanings at once.
The word conveys two meanings, one the same
For the word combines two meanings together as one.
إِنَّindeed بِشَطِّon the bank of الفُراتِthe Euphrates ليfor me سَكَناًa beloved
يَبلُغُhe reaches غَيظيmy anger بِكُلِّby all ماthat which وَسِعاhe could manage
Indeed, on the bank of the Euphrates I have a beloved.
Beside Euphrates' shore I have a home
Indeed, by the banks of the Euphrates, I have a beloved,
He provokes my anger by every means he can.
That soothes my rage with all it can contain
Who strives to provoke my rage with all her might.
يُلصِقُhe presses أَنفيmy nose بِكُلِّinto every مُرغَمَةٍhumiliation
وَلاand not يَرانيhe sees me عَلَيهِagainst him مُمتَنِعاresisting
He presses my nose into every humiliation.
My nose pressed to each sweetest flower
She rubs my nose in the dust of humiliation,
Yet he never finds me resisting him.
Yet no one sees me there disdain
Yet never finds me resisting her will.
