اِسقِنيgive me drink إِنif سَقَيتَنيyou give me drink بِالكَبيرِwith the large cup
اِسقِني إِن سَقَيتَني بِالكَبيرِ
إِنَّindeed فيin السُكرِdrunkenness ليfor me تَمامُfullness السُرورُjoy
إِنَّ في السُكرِ لي تَمامُ السُرورُ
Give me drink, if you give me drink, from the large cup.
Give me to drink, if you give me to drink of the grand,
Pour for me—if you must pour—from the vessel deep and wide,
Indeed, in drunkenness lies the fullness of my joy.
For in intoxication is the fullness of my joy.
For within the swoon of wine my perfect joys reside.
إِنَّindeed شُربَdrinking الصَغيرِthe small cup صُغرٌpettiness وَعَجزٌand weakness
إِنَّ شُربَ الصَغيرِ صُغرٌ وَعَجزٌ
فَاِجعَلِso make الدَورَthe round كُلُّهُall of it بِالكَبيرِwith the large cup
فَاِجعَلِ الدَورَ كُلُّهُ بِالكَبيرِ
Indeed, drinking from the small cup is pettiness and weakness.
Drinking the small is smallness and weakness,
To sip from meager cups is but a petty, feeble trait,
So serve the whole round in the large cup.
So make the whole round with the grand.
So let the heavy bowl go round on every side.

Things have already drawn near to us, just as we
Things have come down to us as we desired
Our fortunes have drawn near to us, just as we...
desire, and the necks of the ages have bowed to us.
And the necks of Time have bowed down before us.
...desire, and the necks of Time bow low before our pride.
