أتى عبدك الخطاء جهلاً وغرة

من الذنب يا تواب كل عظيمة

Your oft-sinning servant has come, in ignorance and heedlessness,

Your oft-sinning servant has, in ignorance and heedlessness, committed

having committed every grave sin, O Accepter of repentance.

Every grievous sin, O Ever-Accepting.

وتوبك بالتيسير للتوب شافعي

وتوبك بالتيسير للتوب شافعي

بأنك يا تواب قبال توبتي

بأنك يا تواب قبال توبتي

Your relenting—by easing my way to repentance—is my intercessor,

And Your merciful turning, making repentance easy, is my intercessor,

for You, O Accepter of repentance, readily receive my repentance.

For You, O Ever-Accepting, readily accept my repentance.

تتوب بتوفيق المتاب لمن عصى

تتوب بتوفيق المتاب لمن عصى

ليخرج من خذلانه في الخطيئة

ليخرج من خذلانه في الخطيئة

You relent toward the disobedient by enabling them to return,

You turn in mercy to whoever has disobeyed, enabling repentance,

that they may escape their forsakenness in sin.

So that he may escape being left unaided in sin.

وتوبك بالاحسان للعبد مطلقاً

وتوبك بالاحسان للعبد مطلقاً

جميل اقتدار وامتنان الوهة

جميل اقتدار وامتنان الوهة

Your relenting toward the servant through beneficence is, absolutely,

And Your merciful turning, showing unconditional kindness to the servant,

a beautiful act of power and a divine bestowal of grace.

Is a beautiful exercise of power and divine beneficence.

تجاوزت يا تواب طوري ولم أدع

تجاوزت يا تواب طوري ولم أدع

سوى الشرك ذنباً لم تقارفه خيرتي

سوى الشرك ذنباً لم تقارفه خيرتي

O Accepter of repentance, I have overstepped my bounds and left

I have overstepped my bounds, O Ever-Accepting, and left no

no sin but idolatry uncommitted by my own free choice.

Sin, save associating partners with You, uncommitted by my own choice.

فلم تقطع الاحسان والكرم الذي

فلم تقطع الاحسان والكرم الذي

يليق بمجد اللّه من كل جهة

يليق بمجد اللّه من كل جهة

Yet You did not withhold the benevolence and generosity

Yet You did not cut off the kindness and generosity that

that befit God’s glory in every respect;

Befit God's glory in every respect.

ولم تغلق الأسباب دوني تأنياً

ولم تغلق الأسباب دوني تأنياً

ولطفاً وتوفيقاً لتحقيق توبتي

ولطفاً وتوفيقاً لتحقيق توبتي

nor did You close the avenues before me, but showed forbearance,

Nor did You bar the means from me, showing patience,

gentleness, and guidance to bring my repentance to fulfillment.

And kindness, and granting aid to bring my repentance to fulfillment.

وفي كل هذا لا أزائل سوءة

وفي كل هذا لا أزائل سوءة

ولا أتقي ما فيه ويلي وشقوتي

ولا أتقي ما فيه ويلي وشقوتي

Despite all this, I never cease from wrongdoing,

And amid all this, I do not abandon wrongdoing,

nor guard against that wherein lie my ruin and misery.

Nor do I shun that in which lie my woe and misery.

وذاك على علمي بأني راجع

وذاك على علمي بأني راجع

إلى كبرياء لا تضيق بعثرتي

إلى كبرياء لا تضيق بعثرتي

And this, although I know that I am returning

And this, in the knowledge that I shall return

to a Majesty that is not straitened by my scattered state—

To a majesty that is not constrained by my stumbling.

إلى الويل يا تواب إن فاتني الرضا

إلى الويل يا تواب إن فاتني الرضا

وتوبك يا تواب يا رب عصمتي

وتوبك يا تواب يا رب عصمتي

returning to ruin, O Accepter of repentance, if divine favor eludes me;

I am bound for woe, O Ever-Accepting, if Your approval eludes me;

yet Your relenting, O Accepter of repentance, O Lord, is my safeguard.

And Your merciful turning, O Ever-Accepting, O Lord, is my safeguard.

الهي تداركني بتثبيت توبة

الهي تداركني بتثبيت توبة

نصوح وكون حلية التوب حليتي

نصوح وكون حلية التوب حليتي

My God, rescue me by making firm a repentance

My God, rescue me by making firm a repentance

sincere and true, and make repentance’s adornment my own.

Sincere, and by making repentance's adornment my adornment.
