You treated me patiently where justice was due, showing forbearance.

And my crime, O Forbearing One, is the gravest of crimes.

And one who has no fear of anyone escaping is not spurred

To swift punishment by the commission of an offense.

You dealt patiently with Your disobedient servant, granting respite; perhaps

He will repent; otherwise, he cannot escape.

And where can the servant flee from his Lord's dominion?

And no speck's true nature is hidden from Him.

And nothing deceives one who disobeys God like His forbearance,

As though sins were hidden from Him—exalted is He!

My God, if You exacted punishment for every lapse,

You would have left no ants crawling upon the earth.

And yet You defer their punishment until appointed times,

Perhaps a breath may bring some repentance.

How long will I transgress while the Forbearing One conceals my faults?

And one day my disgrace must come to light.

Sins hurl me from a lofty summit,

While my soul indulges in amusement, vanity, and heedlessness.

    فصفحا عظيم الحلم أطلق رهينتي

    My God, my soul is dreadful because of its sins;

So grant pardon, O One great in forbearance; free my captive soul.

And even if my sin weighed as much as the universe, it would not amount

To the weight of a speck beside God's forbearance.
