وبسطand the outpouring of لسانيmy tongue ياO مجيبAnswerer بدعوتيin my prayer
You know my desperate need, my Master, and my humble pleading,
You knew my distress, my Lord, and my pleading,
And my tongue’s outpouring, O Answerer, in my prayer.
And my tongue spread, O Responder, with my prayer.
وماand not جزعanguish الانسانthe human being إلاexcept جبلةan innate disposition
ومنand among أصعبthe hardest الأهواءthe passions ميلthe inclination of الجبلةinnate nature
And human anguish is nothing but an innate disposition,
And man's despair is nothing but his nature,
And among the hardest passions is the pull of innate nature.
And of the most difficult passions is the bending of nature.

وعدتYou promised بهwith it ياO ربLord صدقthe genuineness of الضرورةdire need
Otherwise, the lifting of affliction is an assured promise,
Unless the evil is unveiled and the promise fulfilled,
You promised it, O Lord, to genuine distress.
You promised, O Lord, the truth of necessity.
الهيmy God بماthrough what ألهمتنيYou inspired me وفتحتand You opened ليfor me
بفضلكby Your grace ربيmy Lord منof دعائيmy prayer وسبحتيand my praise
My God, through what You inspired in me and opened for me,
My God, with what you inspired me and opened for me,
By Your grace, my Lord, in my prayer and praise,
By your grace, my Lord, from my prayer and praise.

I saw beyond the opening another opening You had decreed,
I saw behind the opening, an opening your power predetermined,
Even if my soul misled me about my prayer being held back.
And if my soul deluded me in the captivity of my prayer,

And the delay of whatever answer You deferred
And postponing what you delayed in answering,
Is providential governance for what is best for me.
Is a policy of managing what is best for me.

You bestow it on me بلnay وعينand the very ضرورتيmy desperate need
And my very prayer, my Master, is mercy from You,
And the eye of my prayer, my Master, is mercy from you,
Which You bestow on me—nay, so is my very desperate need.
That gives me permission, rather the eye of my necessity.
وكلand every بلاءaffliction غيرexcept عدلكYour justice نعمةa blessing

And every affliction, save Your justice, is a blessing,
And any affliction other than your justice is a blessing,
Even if the souls of creation grow weary of it.
Even if the souls of the righteous are weary of it.

My God, I have not despaired of relief and fulfillment,
My God, I did not despair of the soul and loyalty,
Even if the decree has multiplied the measure of my affliction.
Even if the decree doubled the measure of my misery.
الهيmy God ندائيmy call ماnot لهfor it عنكfrom You حاجزa barrier
وقبلand before ندائيmy call أنتYou تسترYou veil خلتيmy need
My God, no barrier keeps my call from You,
My God, my call has no barrier from you,
And before I call, You veil my need.
And before my call, you conceal my solitude.

أسأتI erred in دعائيmy prayer واجتهاديand my striving ورغبتيand my longing
My God, be gracious in answering, if I have
My God, be good in answering, if I
Erred in my prayer, my striving, and my longing.
Was wrong in my prayer, my endeavor, and my desire.
