ومن يحبُّ بحبِ الغير مشغولُ

ومن يحبُّ بحبِ الغير مشغولُ

What can a man do if passion grows stronger within him,

What can a man do if passion for another grows?

While the one he loves is absorbed in love for another?

While the one he loves is preoccupied with loving someone else.

إن رام تركاً فهذا لا سبيل له

إن رام تركاً فهذا لا سبيل له

أورام صبراً فعَقَد الصبر محلولُ

أورام صبراً فعَقَد الصبر محلولُ

If he seeks to renounce it, he has no way to do so;

If he wants to forget, that path holds no solution.

Or if he seeks patience, the knot of patience is undone.

Or if he chooses patience, even that knot comes undone.
