إلى الملك الفعال في ملكه لما

يريد تناهى رهب نفسي ورغبتي

يريد تناهى رهب نفسي ورغبتي

To the King, the Ever-Acting in His realm, in whatever

To the Sovereign, who accomplishes in His dominion whatever

He wills—my soul’s awe and longing have reached their utmost.

He wills, my soul's dread and my longing have come at last.

هو الفاعل المختار ما شاء كائن

هو الفاعل المختار ما شاء كائن

وما لم يشأ لم يأت ضد المشيئة

وما لم يشأ لم يأت ضد المشيئة

He is the choosing Agent: whatever He wills shall be,

He is the freely choosing Doer; whatever He wills comes to be.

and what He does not will shall never come, contrary to His will.

And what He does not will never comes about against His will.

هو المصدر الأفعال خلقاً أراده

هو المصدر الأفعال خلقاً أراده

وإن صدرت كسباً بفعل الخليقة

وإن صدرت كسباً بفعل الخليقة

He is the originator of deeds, creating them as He wills,

He brings forth actions as a creation He has willed,

though as acquired acts they issue through the creature’s deed.

Even though they issue as acquired deeds through the acts of creatures.

يؤثر ما يختار فعلاً مقدساً

يؤثر ما يختار فعلاً مقدساً

عن العبث الفطري والعوجية

عن العبث الفطري والعوجية

He brings about whatever He chooses—a deed made holy

He brings about what He chooses, His action exalted

above innate caprice and crookedness.

Above innate futility and crookedness.

وما فعله تأثيره لوجوده

وما فعله تأثيره لوجوده

ولا فعله تأثيره بطبيعة

ولا فعله تأثيره بطبيعة

Neither His act nor His effecting proceeds merely from His existence,

And His action is not causation arising from His mere existence,

nor does His acting or effecting occur by nature;

Nor is His action causation through an inherent nature.

ولا فعله أثر اقتفاء لفاعل

ولا فعله أثر اقتفاء لفاعل

ولا أثر عن شركة أو معونة

ولا أثر عن شركة أو معونة

nor is His act an effect following upon another agent,

Nor is His action the result of following another agent's footsteps,

nor any effect born of partnership or assistance;

Nor an effect arising from partnership or assistance.

ولا فعله دفع ونفع لنفسه

ولا فعله دفع ونفع لنفسه

تعالى ولا فعل على غرضية

تعالى ولا فعل على غرضية

nor does He act to repel harm or gain benefit for Himself.

Nor does He act to ward off harm and gain benefit for Himself.

Exalted is He; no act of His is driven by an ulterior purpose.

Exalted is He; no act of His is driven by an ulterior purpose.

تأثرت الأسباب عنه فأثرت

تأثرت الأسباب عنه فأثرت

بحكمته التأثير بالبسببية

بحكمته التأثير بالبسببية

Causes were acted upon by Him, and so they act;

The causes were affected by Him and thus produced effects;

by His wisdom they exert influence through causality.

Through His wisdom, effects are brought about through causality.

وما هذه الأسباب الآت فعله

وما هذه الأسباب الآت فعله

ولكنها مأسورة تحت حكمة

ولكنها مأسورة تحت حكمة

These causes are not the instruments of His action,

And these causes are not instruments of His action,

but are held captive beneath a wisdom.

But they are held captive beneath wisdom.

الهي يا فعال أشكو إليك ما

الهي يا فعال أشكو إليك ما

تناوبني من نكبة غب نكبة

تناوبني من نكبة غب نكبة

My God, O Ever-Acting One, I complain to You of what

My God, O All-Accomplishing One, I complain to You of what

has assailed me: calamity following calamity.

Has assailed me—calamity after calamity.

الهي فافعل بي الذي أنت أهله

الهي فافعل بي الذي أنت أهله

بحق اسمك الفعال واكشف ملمتي

بحق اسمك الفعال واكشف ملمتي

My God, deal with me as befits You,

My God, then do with me what befits You,

by the truth of Your name, the Ever-Acting, and lift my affliction.

For the sake of Your name, the All-Accomplishing, and lift my affliction.
