حملوا العصي فكنت أحمل سبحةً
كسرتit shattered رماحاًspears أشرعتwere leveled وعصياand staffs
كسرت رماحاً أشرعت وعصيا
They carried staffs, while I carried a string of prayer beads
They carried sticks, and I carried a rosary,
That shattered leveled spears and staffs.
I broke spears, raised banners and staffs,
خانتهمbetrayed them عندduring الهياجthe fray عصيهمtheir staffs
خانتهم عند الهياج عصيهم
ولكمand how many قصمتُI crushed بماwith what حملتI carried عَصياًa defiant man
ولكم قصمتُ بما حملت عَصياً
Their staffs betrayed them in the fray,
Their sticks failed them in the turmoil,
And how many a defiant man I crushed with what I carried!
Yet how many spears have I broken with what staff I carried.
