حملوا عصيهم وأحمل سُبحةً
شتانhow far apart بينbetween سلاحهمtheir weapon وسلاحيand my weapon
شتان بين سلاحهم وسلاحي
They bore their staffs, while I bear a rosary.
They carried their sticks, and I carry prayer beads.
How vast the gulf between their weapon and mine!
How far apart are their weapon and mine!
ظلموthey acted unjustly فيماwhile انتصرchampioned الحسامthe sword لظلمهمin support of their injustice
ظلمو فيما انتصر الحسام لظلمهم
ولكمand how often قصمتI shattered الجيشthe army بالمسباحwith prayer beads
ولكم قصمت الجيش بالمسباح
They committed injustice, while the sword championed their oppression;
They acted unjustly, while the sword championed their injustice.
Yet how often I have shattered the army with the rosary!
And how often I have shattered the army with prayer beads!
