ويا قابض الأشياء قبضة قوة

ويا قابض الأشياء قبضة قوة

لها السلب والتقدير في كل ذرة

O You who grasp all things with a grasp of power,

And O You who grasp all things with a grip of might,

whose power takes away and ordains within every atom;

To which belong deprivation and decree in every atom;

ويا قابض الابداع في مستقره

ويا قابض الابداع في مستقره

نظاماً على غاياته الحكمية

نظاماً على غاياته الحكمية

O You who hold creation in its appointed place,

And O You who hold creation in its resting place,

ordered according to its wise purposes;

Ordered according to its wise purposes;

ويا قباض الأكوان فهي بحمده

ويا قباض الأكوان فهي بحمده

مسبحة في القبض تسبيح فطرة

مسبحة في القبض تسبيح فطرة

O mighty Grasper of the worlds, which, in praise of Him,

And O mighty Grasper of the worlds—they, in praise of Him,

glorify within His grasp with the praise of their innate nature;

Glorify Him in His grasp with inborn praise;

ويا قابض الألباب من أهل قربه

ويا قابض الألباب من أهل قربه

عن البسط في الأغيار والتبعية

عن البسط في الأغيار والتبعية

O You who draw the minds of those brought near to Him

And O You who restrain the minds of those close to Him,

away from ranging among all that is other and from subservience;

From opening out to other things and from dependence;

ويا قابض الأسرار من حيث علمه

ويا قابض الأسرار من حيث علمه

بما يقتضي التطوير في البشرية

بما يقتضي التطوير في البشرية

O You who hold all secrets, through His knowledge

And O You who withhold secrets according to His knowledge,

of what the development of humankind requires;

Of what development in humankind requires;

ويا قابض الأرزاق قبض سياسة

ويا قابض الأرزاق قبض سياسة

ومصلحة منه لنفس مقلة

ومصلحة منه لنفس مقلة

O You who withhold provisions as an act of wise governance

And O You who withhold sustenance as an act of governance,

and as a benefit from Him to an impoverished soul;

And as a benefit from Him to a needy soul;

ويا قابض النعماء مقتاً ونقمة

ويا قابض النعماء مقتاً ونقمة

لمن قابل النعماء بالبطرية

لمن قابل النعماء بالبطرية

O You who withdraw blessings in abhorrence and retribution

And O You who withdraw blessings in loathing and retribution,

from those who meet those blessings with wanton ingratitude;

For whoever meets blessings with arrogant ingratitude;

ويا قابض الأعمار عند حدودها

ويا قابض الأعمار عند حدودها

ومستأثراً بالبعد والسرمدية

ومستأثراً بالبعد والسرمدية

O You who take lives when they reach their appointed bounds,

And O You who seize lifespans at their limits,

while reserving boundlessness and eternity for Yourself alone;

And reserve remoteness and eternity for Yourself;

ويا قابض الأرواح من مودعاتها

ويا قابض الأرواح من مودعاتها

لمستودعات الغيب في البرزخية

لمستودعات الغيب في البرزخية

O You who take spirits from the vessels where they were lodged

And O You who take souls from their lodgings,

to the unseen repositories of the intermediate realm;

To the repositories of the unseen in the intermediate realm;

بقبضتك الكلية اقبض معاندي

بقبضتك الكلية اقبض معاندي

مقيتاً شقياً بين خزي ولعنة

مقيتاً شقياً بين خزي ولعنة

with Your all-encompassing grasp, seize my obstinate foe,

With Your all-encompassing grasp, seize my adversary,

detested and wretched, amid disgrace and curse;

Loathsome and wretched, between disgrace and a curse;

وشدد عليه القبض في كل بسطة

وشدد عليه القبض في كل بسطة

اطارته بغياً فوق أهل البسيطة

اطارته بغياً فوق أهل البسيطة

and tighten Your constriction upon him in every breadth of power

And tighten Your grip upon him in every widening of his reach

that has made him soar in tyranny above the people of the earth.

That has sent him soaring in tyranny above the people of the earth.
