opposing it and no partner in the decree.

تفردت بالتدبير في كل كائن

فما دبر المخلوق أمراً لشركة

You alone direct every existent thing;

You alone govern every being;

no created being directs any affair in partnership.

so no creature has managed an affair as Your partner.

وكنت ملياً بالولاية قدرة

وكنت ملياً بالولاية قدرة

وفعلاً وتدبيراً بغير وسيطة

وفعلاً وتدبيراً بغير وسيطة

You are fully able in governance—in power,

And You have been fully capable of guardianship—in power,

action, and direction—without any intermediary.

وما لي وللتدبير والأمر كله

إليك وما لي منك مثقال ذرة

إليك وما لي منك مثقال ذرة

What have I to do with planning, when the whole affair

And what have I to do with planning, when the whole affair

is Yours? I possess not from You even an atom’s weight.

rests with You, and not an atom's weight of Your authority is mine?

وما قدر تدبيري وشأن استطاعتي

وما قدر تدبيري وشأن استطاعتي

وفي قيد حكم منك تصريف فطرتي

وفي قيد حكم منك تصريف فطرتي

What worth has my planning, and what standing has my ability,

And what is my planning worth, and what is the standing of my ability,

when the direction of my nature is bound by a ruling from You?

when the course of my innate nature is bound by a decree from You?

واسقاط تدبيري سلوك محقق

واسقاط تدبيري سلوك محقق

يحققه أمري لوالي الحقيقة

يحققه أمري لوالي الحقيقة

To relinquish my planning is a sure path;

And relinquishing my planning is authentic wayfaring,

my affair confirms it for the Ruler of Reality.

made real by my affairs belonging to the Ruler of Reality.

وما مبلغ التدبير والأمر منتهى

وما مبلغ التدبير والأمر منتهى

إليك وأطواري لحصر وعلة

إليك وأطواري لحصر وعلة

How far can planning reach? The affair ultimately

And how far can planning reach, when all affairs ultimately lead

returns to You, while my changing states are bounded and flawed.

to You, while my states are bound by limitation and causation?

My God, the authority of governance is dazzling

My God, the power of Your guardianship is dazzling

to what is dulled by possibility and partiality.

to the frailty of contingency and particularity.

تول أموري كلها وادفع البلا

تول أموري كلها وادفع البلا

وأفات هذا الكون وابسط ولايتي

وأفات هذا الكون وابسط ولايتي

Take charge of all my affairs and ward off affliction

Take charge of all my affairs and ward off tribulation

and the scourges of this world, and extend my governance.

and the afflictions of this universe; extend Your guardianship over me.
