O Hidden One of the Essence, You are hidden without concealment,

And O You, hidden in essence, You are hidden without concealment,

inwardly beyond thoughts and contemplation.

بطنت بغفران الذنوب وعفوها

وبالعلم اطلاقاً بكل حقيقة

You are hidden through forgiving sins and pardoning them,

You are hidden in forgiving sins and pardoning them,

and through absolute knowledge of every reality.

بطنت بطوناً أن تناسب حادثاً

You are too inwardly hidden to resemble any created thing

من الحيث والتكييف والمتوية

You are hidden, through the sanctity of the Essence, from all alien to it:

from where-ness, modality, and temporality.

You are hidden beyond imagination and fancy, my Lord,

You are hidden beyond imagination and conjecture, my Master,

and by nature beyond any likeness, intelligible or sensible.

and through annihilating whatever creatures You brought into being.

My God, the Real’s hiddenness lies in Absolute Self-Sufficiency.

وبعث الحجا بالنظرة القدسية

وبعث الحجا بالنظرة القدسية

You are hidden through adorning the paths of right guidance

You are hidden in adorning the paths of right conduct and guidance,

and awakening discernment through the sacred vision.

and in awakening reason through the holy gaze.

بطنت فلا إدراك للحس والنهى

بطنت فلا إدراك للحس والنهى

بدنيا ولا أخرى لعين الحقيقة

بدنيا ولا أخرى لعين الحقيقة

You are hidden: neither sense nor intellect can grasp

You are hidden: neither sense nor intellect can apprehend

in this world or the next, the very essence of Reality.

So sanctify my inward being with the light of the Hidden Real,

and grant me disclosure of the concealed inward mysteries.
