طنبت في الوادي المقدس خيمتي

ورعيت بين شعوبه أغنامي

My tent is pitched in the sacred valley.

And I pasture my sheep among its winding paths.

قل للذئاب الكاسرات تفسحي

عز الحمىّ وأعز منه الحامي

Tell the ravening wolves: make way.

The sanctuary is mighty, and mightier still its guardian.

فلقد نزلت على عظيم قادر

عز الجلال إليه والأكرامِ

For I have come to rest with the Great and Powerful One.

To Him belong majesty and honor.

يقضي ولا يقضى عليه نزيله

لو كاده الثقلان غير مضامِ

His guest may judge, but none may judge against him.

Though the two weighty orders plot against him, he suffers no wrong.

من بعد ما طردت كل مطرد

ونشبت بين أظافر الأيامِ

After I had been driven from every refuge,

And caught between the claws of days,

سترتني الأسماء في ملكوتها

فحجبت عن فهمي وعن أوهامي

The Names sheltered me within their dominion.

So I was veiled from my understanding and my fancies.

وسقتنيَ الأسرار شربة ذوقها

فعجزت عن تعبيره وكلامي

The mysteries gave me a draught of their taste.

And I could neither express it nor speak of it.

وذكرت من هو في الحقيقة ذاكري

وحقيقتي لا شيء وهي مقامي

I remembered the One who, in truth, remembers me.

My own reality is nothing, and that is my station.

وحقيقتي أني محوت حقيقتي

إذ ثبتها صنم من الأصنامِ

My reality is that I effaced my reality,

For to affirm it would make it an idol among idols.

لما محوت اسمي باسم محققي

مكنت فوق رؤوسهم أقدامي

When I effaced my name through the name of the One who realizes me,

My feet were set above their heads.

أنفقت وجداني لوحدة موجدي

وعلى سواه حقائق الاعدامِ

I gave my whole being to the oneness of my Creator.

And all besides Him bears the marks of nonbeing.

وإرادتي إياه ظل إرادة

سبقت له في النقض والابرامِ

My will for Him is the shadow of a will

That preceded it in His undoing and ordaining.
