Take charge of my allegiance, firmly establishing my sainthood,

through the dot of bāʾ, not through my own bare dot.

Take charge of my ascent from the nesting hollows of my center

to You, through grace from You, not through my own mode of being.

صفاتي الدنايا بالصفات العلية

صفاتي الدنايا بالصفات العلية

Take charge of my sainthood, raising my name through Your name,

and my lowly qualities through the lofty attributes.

Take charge of my allegiance; whoever You take into Your care finds guidance.

My selfish desires have hurled me into the depths of my error.

whose gentle graces accompany me along my path.

My Protector, the preoccupations of passion have taken hold of me.

Secure my deliverance from a passion in which lies my misery.

Rescue this soul, my Protector, for it—

whenever its passion takes charge of it—turns away,
