My God, show compassion, O Compassionate One, to me where I stand;

and my station and my standing lie before Your exalted gaze.

الهي يا من لا يجاوزه الرجا

ولا تتعداه ظنون الخليقة

ولا تتعداه ظنون الخليقة

My God, O You beyond whom no hope reaches,

and beyond whom creation's expectations cannot pass.

الهي يا من لا يضيع ملظة

الهي يا من لا يضيع ملظة

ويا منتهى خوفي وغاية وحشتي

ويا منتهى خوفي وغاية وحشتي

My God, O You who never abandon a persistent suppliant,

and O ultimate object of my fear and deepest dread.

تداولني أيدي الذنوب وقادني

تداولني أيدي الذنوب وقادني

زمام الخطايا في مجاهل ضلتي

زمام الخطايا في مجاهل ضلتي

The hands of sins passed me among them, and I was led

by the rein of transgressions through the trackless wilds of my error.

قد استحوذ الشيطان رب علي في

مناصبتي اياه من سوء خيرتي

مناصبتي اياه من سوء خيرتي

Satan has indeed mastered me, my Lord, in

my struggle against him, through my poor choices.

فقصرت تفريطاً عن الأمر مطلقاً

فقصرت تفريطاً عن الأمر مطلقاً

وقارفت تغريراً لنهي الشريعة

وقارفت تغريراً لنهي الشريعة

So through neglect I fell utterly short of the command,

and recklessly committed what the sacred Law forbids,

كمنكر احسان وآمن أخذة

كمنكر احسان وآمن أخذة

ومهمل ايعاد وجاهل قدرة

ومهمل ايعاد وجاهل قدرة

like one who denies Your kindness and feels safe from Your grasp,

and disregards Your warning and is ignorant of Your power.

رأيت بفتح الجفن عن بصر الهدى

فظاعة عصياني وكبر جريمتي

I saw, on lifting the eyelid from the eye of guidance,

the horror of my disobedience and the enormity of my crime.

فأقبلت بالآمال مستحيياً إلى

فنائك تحت الرأفة الأزلية

فنائك تحت الرأفة الأزلية

So I came with hopes, ashamed, to

Your courtyard, beneath eternal compassion.

خلا طمعي إلا من اللّه وحده

خلا طمعي إلا من اللّه وحده

وافرخ إلا منه روعي وروعتي

وافرخ إلا منه روعي وروعتي

My hope was emptied of all but God alone,

and my fear and terror subsided, save my fear of Him.

ابثك من سري ضميراً علته

ابثك من سري ضميراً علته

خشوعاً فآمن يا رؤوف مخافتي

خشوعاً فآمن يا رؤوف مخافتي

I confide to You, from my inmost self, a heart's affliction,

in humility; so, O Compassionate One, allay my fear.
