قصدت جلال اللّه جل جلاله

قصدت جلال اللّه جل جلاله

وقصد الجليل الحق مجدي وعزتي

وقصد الجليل الحق مجدي وعزتي

I sought the majesty of God—exalted is His majesty.

I sought the Majesty of Glorious God,

And seeking the Majestic, the True One, is my glory and honor.

And sought the Magnificence of the True Truth, my glory and might.

شهدت جلال اللّه حيث صفاتُه

شهدت جلال اللّه حيث صفاتُه

فابهتني مستغرقاً لبصيرتي

فابهتني مستغرقاً لبصيرتي

I beheld God's majesty where His attributes are,

I witnessed the Majesty of God in His attributes,

And it astounded me, wholly absorbing my inner sight.

So I was dazzled, immersed in my inner sight.

ولما تجلت لي نعوت جلاله

ولما تجلت لي نعوت جلاله

تصاعدت من نفسي إلى العدمية

تصاعدت من نفسي إلى العدمية

And when the attributes of His majesty were revealed to me,

And when the attributes of His Majesty were revealed to me,

I ascended from my self into nothingness.

There rose from my soul unto nothingness.

تجلت على نعتي نعوت جلاله

تجلت على نعتي نعوت جلاله

كما أنه منها نعوتي تجلت

كما أنه منها نعوتي تجلت

The attributes of His majesty were revealed upon my own nature,

His attributes of Majesty were revealed upon my attributes,

Just as it was from them that my own attributes were revealed.

Just as my attributes from His attributes were revealed.

تعرضت الأفياء فانتسخت به

تعرضت الأفياء فانتسخت به

ولم يبق إلا نور قدس ووحدة

ولم يبق إلا نور قدس ووحدة

The shadows appeared, then were effaced by it,

The imperfections appeared, so I discarded them,

And nothing remained but a light of holiness and oneness.

And only the light of holiness and oneness remained.

جلال قديم لا يناسب رتبة

جلال قديم لا يناسب رتبة

وليست تضاهيه جلالة رتبة

وليست تضاهيه جلالة رتبة

A beginningless majesty, commensurate with no rank,

Ancient Majesty unsuited for any rank,

Nor does the grandeur of any rank equal it.

No majesty compares to His rank.

جلال تذل الكائنات لعزّه

جلال تذل الكائنات لعزّه

وأعظم عز تحته محض ذلة

وأعظم عز تحته محض ذلة

A majesty before whose might all beings are humbled,

A Majesty that humiliates all creatures by His might,

And the greatest might beneath it is sheer abasement.

And the greatest might under it is utter humiliation.

الهي جليل الشأن أين مدارجي

الهي جليل الشأن أين مدارجي

وذكري وفكري في الصفات الجليلة

وذكري وفكري في الصفات الجليلة

My God, sublime in dignity, where are my stages of ascent,

O my Glorious Lord, where are my steps,

And my remembrance and reflection on the majestic attributes?

And my remembrance and thoughts in the Majestic attributes?

نهاية ما آتى به حَمدُ حائرٍ

نهاية ما آتى به حَمدُ حائرٍ

ولهجة مضطر واجلال دهشهِ

ولهجة مضطر واجلال دهشهِ

The utmost I can offer is a bewildered man's praise,

This is the end of what praising Hamd has brought,

And a desperate man's utterance, and reverence born of his astonishment.

The utterance of one compelled, whose awe overwhelmed him.

الهي ألبسني جلالاً يليق بي

الهي ألبسني جلالاً يليق بي

جلالاً يرقيني إلى كل حضرة

جلالاً يرقيني إلى كل حضرة

My God, clothe me in a majesty befitting me,

O my God, clothe me in a Majesty befitting me,

A majesty that raises me to every presence,

A Majesty that elevates me to every court.

به أرتقي يا ذا الجلال وأنتهي

به أرتقي يا ذا الجلال وأنتهي

إلى موقف أنهى رجال المحبة

إلى موقف أنهى رجال المحبة

Through it I ascend, O Possessor of Majesty, and arrive

By it I ascend, O Majestic One, and arrive

At a station that brought the men of love to their end.

At a station where the lovers have concluded.
