الله أكبر حق اكبر لله — Abu Muslim Al Bahlani

اللّه أكبر حق اكبر للّه

والقهر والجبر يا والعز للّه

God is greater; “greater” is God's rightful due.

And subjugation, overwhelming majesty, and might belong to God.

اللّه أكبر ذو القدر العلي رفي

ع المجد لا مجد إلا وهو للّه

God is greater, of exalted rank, lofty

in glory; no glory exists but belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر أهل الكبرياء عظي

م الملك حقية الاكبار للّه

God is greater, worthy of majesty, mighty

in sovereignty; the true right to exaltation belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر ذو العرش المجيد مني

ع العز لا عز إلا وهو للّه

God is greater, Lord of the glorious Throne, unassailable

in might; no might exists but belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر ذو البطش الشديد عزي

ز الانتقام من العاصين للّه

God is greater, wielding terrible force, mighty

in vengeance against those who disobey God.

اللّه أكبر رب لا شريك له

ولا ظهير ولا أشياء للّه

God is greater, a Lord with no partner,

nor a supporter, nor any things [comparable] to God.

اللّه أكبر عدل قائم ملك

حق كما يجب التكبير للّه

God is greater: just, self-subsisting, a sovereign

in truth; exaltation is rightly due to God.

اللّه أكبر حقاً ذو الجلال وذو ال

اكرام تكبير ذات اللّه للّه

God is truly greater, Lord of majesty and

honor; magnification of God's essence belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر تكبيراً لعزته

كما يحب ويرضى اللّه للّه

God is greater, magnified for His might,

as God loves and approves, all for God.

اللّه أكبر تكبيراً بما جمعت

صفاته من سمات الكبر للّه

God is greater, magnified for all that is gathered

in His attributes of the marks of greatness, belonging to God.

اللّه أكبر تكبيراً بما سفرت

أسماؤه من عظيم القدر للّه

God is greater, magnified for all that is revealed

by His names of exalted rank, belonging to God.

اللّه أكبر تكبيراً بما نطقت

أفعاله من كمال الكبر للّه

God is greater, magnified for all that is proclaimed

by His acts of perfect greatness, belonging to God.

اللّه أكبر ايماناً بوحدته

في الذات والنسب العليا إلى اللّه

God is greater, in faith in His oneness,

in essence and in the exalted relations ascribed to God.

اللّه أكبر اعظاماً لرتبته

تعاظمت كل شيء رتبة اللّه

God is greater, in reverence for His station;

God's station towers above everything.

اللّه أكبر عن تكبير صنعته

فوق العبارات كبراً عزة اللّه

God is greater than His creation's magnification;

God's might is too great for words.

اللّه أكبر عن اطراء مدحتنا

أصغر باطرائنا في جانب اللّه

God is greater than our lavish praises;

how paltry is our praise beside God!

اللّه أكبر عن وهم وعن فكر

حسب النهى درك أن لا درك للّه

God is greater than imagination and thought;

reason need only grasp that God cannot be grasped.

اللّه أكبر عن علم يحيط به

العلم بالكنه مما اختص باللّه

God is greater than knowledge that encompasses Him;

knowledge of His essence is reserved for God.

اللّه أكبر عن كنه يحل وعن

حلول اغيار عين الذات باللّه

God is greater than an essence that indwells, and than

the indwelling in God of anything other than His very essence.

اللّه أكبر عن فقر إلى صفة

سواه في السلب والايجاب للّه

God is greater than need for an attribute

other than Himself, in what is denied and affirmed of God.

اللّه أكبر عن كيف وهل ولما

تقدس اللّه لا تعليل للّه

God is greater than “how?”, “whether?”, or “why?”;

God is holy; no cause can be assigned to God.

اللّه أكبر عن حد وعن وجهة

وعن مقابلة الأشياء للّه

God is greater than a limit or a direction,

or than objects standing opposite God.

اللّه أكبر عن نقص يؤثره

درك العيون ودرك العقل في اللّه

God is greater than any deficiency caused

by the grasp of eyes or the mind's grasp of God.

اللّه أكبر عن علم يجزئه

تغاير الحدث المصنوع للّه

God is greater than knowledge fragmented

by the diversity of created things made by God.

اللّه أكبر عن علم على حدث

ترك الارادة عن علم من اللّه

God is greater than knowledge contingent on an event,

or the abandonment of will because of knowledge from God.

اللّه أكبر عن جهل بذي علم

ومستحيل تعالت غيرة اللّه

God is greater than ignorance of anything knowable

or impossible; exalted is God's jealousy.

اللّه أكبر عن حال وعن غير

إن البلى عرض في محدث اللّه

God is greater than any state or change;

decay is an accident in what God brings into being.

اللّه أكبر عن خلف الوعيد وعن

تبدل القول في وعد من اللّه

God is greater than breaking His threat, or

changing His word in a promise from God.

اللّه أكبر عن شغل يضايقه

بشأن أخر عن شأن من اللّه

God is greater than a task that constrains Him,

one affair distracting Him from another affair of God's.

اللّه أكبر عن أمر يعارضه

أمر يد الغلب والتنفيذ للّه

God is greater than a command opposed

by another command; the hand of mastery and enforcement belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر عن فوت لثقل هبا

ء عز عن حصر قيومية اللّه

God is greater than missing even the weight of a mote;

God's all-sustaining power defies confinement.

اللّه أكبر عن ولد وصاحبة

ووالد وعن التقسيم للّه

God is greater than having a child or a consort,

or a parent, or any division of God.

اللّه أكبر عن ايجاب موجبة

ذات الوجوب وجوب الذات للّه

God is greater than a cause that necessitates

the necessarily existent essence; necessity of essence belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر عن فضل وعن صلة

خصائص الدرك نافت عزة اللّه

God is greater than excess or connection;

the properties of perception are incompatible with God's might.

اللّه أكبر جداً أن يمانعه

جد فما عز ذو جد على اللّه

God is far too great to be resisted

by worldly fortune; no man of fortune prevails against God.

اللّه أكبر جداً أن يقيده

فقر لشيء تعالت غنية اللّه

God is far too great to be constrained

by need of anything; exalted is God's self-sufficiency.

اللّه أكبر جداً أن يغالب في

سلطانه بقضاء ليس للّه

God is far too great to be challenged in

His sovereignty by a decree not God's.

اللّه أكبر جداً أن أذل ولي

من عز تكبيره حصن من اللّه

God is far too great for me to be abased, when I have

in the might of proclaiming His greatness a fortress from God.

اللّه أكبر ملكاً إن أمد إلى

غناه كفى فلا أحظى من اللّه

God is greater in sovereignty; if I reach toward

His abundance, it suffices: none bestows more favor than God.

اللّه أكبر وهباً إن أقل على

مواهب اللّه والحسنى من اللّه

God is greater in giving, if I speak of

God's gifts; all goodness is from God.

اللّه أكبر وسعاً أن يضايقني

سوء وأوسع شيء رحمة اللّه

God is greater in vastness than that I should be pressed

by evil; nothing is vaster than God's mercy.

اللّه أكبر جوداً أن يحملني

فقراً إلى الخلق والاعطاء للّه

God is greater in generosity than that He should drive me

in need to His creatures, when giving belongs to God.

اللّه أكبر لطفاً أني يقيدني

سوء الجدود وآفاتي عن اللّه

God is greater in kindness; how could I be held back

by ill fortune and my afflictions, away from God?

اللّه أكبر قهراً أن تعبدني

نفسي لسلطانها عن خدمة اللّه

God is greater in mastery than that I should be enslaved

by my soul to its power, away from God's service.

اللّه أكبر حفظاً أن يغادرني

مسترسلاً للهوى عن خشية اللّه

God is greater in safeguarding than that He should leave me

unrestrained in desire, far from fear of God.

اللّه أكبر احساناً وتربية

من أن أزائل طوراً صبغة اللّه

God is greater in goodness and nurture

than that I should ever forsake God's hue.

اللّه أكبر براً أن أقوم له

فلا تبارك اخلاصي يد اللّه

God is greater in kindness than that I should rise before Him

and God's hand should not bless my devotion.

اللّه أكبر منا أن يرى ولهي

فانثني عنه مطروداً عن اللّه

God is greater in bounty than that He should see my longing

and I turn away from Him, driven out from God.

اللّه أكبر حلماً أن يؤاخذني

بما اقترفت وقد أخلصت للّه

God is greater in forbearance than that He should call me to account

for what I have committed, when I have devoted myself to God.

اللّه أكبر عفواً أن يعذبني

وقد تنصلت من ذنبي إلى اللّه

God is greater in pardon than that He should torment me,

when I have renounced my sin and turned to God.

اللّه أكبر صفحاً أن أخر له

مستصغراً فأرى مقتاً من اللّه

God is greater in forgiveness than that I should fall before Him

humbling myself, only to meet with loathing from God.

اللّه أكبر معروفاً وفاضل

أن يوحش العبد بعد الأنس باللّه

God is greater in kindness, and too bountiful

to estrange a servant after intimacy with God.

اللّه أكبر تكريماً لمقترب

تقرب العبد تقريب من اللّه

God is greater in honoring one who draws near;

a servant's approach is God's drawing him close.

اللّه أكبر ما أحفى عواطفه

بعائذ بائس راج من اللّه

God is greater—how tender His compassion

toward a wretched seeker of refuge who hopes in God!

اللّه أكبر ما أوحى اغاثته

للمستغيث من الاسواء باللّه

God is greater—how swift His aid

to one seeking God's help against evils!

اللّه أكبر ما أدنى لطائفه

من لاجىء في بلاياه إلى اللّه

God is greater—how near His gentle favors

to one fleeing to God amid his trials!

اللّه أكبر ما أولى مراحمه

بحل عقدة مضطر إلى اللّه

God is greater—how fitting His mercies

to untie the knot of one driven by need to God!

اللّه أكبر ما أسنى جوائزه

لمادح اللّه لا يرجو سوى اللّه

God is greater—how splendid His rewards

for one who praises God and hopes for none but God!

اللّه أكبر ما أجدى عوارفه

لباسط القول بالتمجيد للّه

God is greater—how fruitful His benefactions

for one who pours out words in glorification of God!

اللّه أكبر ما أوفى مكارمه

لتارك الخلق معطي الحق للّه

God is greater—how abundant His generous gifts

for one who forsakes creation and gives God His due!

اللّه أكبر ما أحرى عنايته

لمن تمسك في الأطوار باللّه

God is greater—how fitting His care

for one who holds fast to God through every state!

اللّه أكبر ما أعلى أياديه

تبارك اللّه تمت نعمة اللّه

God is greater—how exalted His favors!

Blessed is God; God's blessing is complete.

اللّه أكبر أصلحني وصل على

محمد وأجزني الحب باللّه

God is greater: set me right, and send blessings upon

Muhammad; and grant me love through God.
