Calamities have indeed struck me, O Merciful One,

Dense, enveloping veils, spreading still more veils.

And my sins’ ill fortune has subjected me to ruin’s ordeals,

And torn my life apart and driven my righteousness far away.

I have brought my complaint to none who might relieve my anguish

And pity my humble pleading, save You, my God.

And You are truly merciful; Your compassion embraces

The obedient friend or the rebellious foe.

And though I go to excess, wronging my soul,

Yet I have never abandoned my hopeful trust.

And my hope has grown, for I believe in You,

And I have not despaired, though I have been disobedient.

Blessed are You! Dispel every anguish and sorrow

And worry; ease every distress that has befallen me.

Exalted are You! Revive me with Your solace, and shield me

Through Your mercy, from adversity, and deal gently with my plight.

By Your truth, I have not despaired of the mercy

Through which You fed the raven chick, hungry in its nest.

And “Do not despair of God’s mercy” has guided me,

And “Do not despair of His relief” is what has called me.

And in the boundless mercy that precedes wrath have come to rest

My hopes; so welcome, O Merciful One, my arrival.
