تكاد ترد الأمس من مذهب الأمس

He pursued policies commensurate with his resolve,

that almost bring yesterday back from where yesterday has gone,

إلى أن تسنى أمره الدهر فانثنى

إلى أن تسنى أمره الدهر فانثنى

إليه كتصريف الأعنة للشمس

إليه كتصريف الأعنة للشمس

until his command won Time over, and it turned

toward him, as reins turn headstrong steeds.

فطابق ما في نفسه قدر نفسه

فطابق ما في نفسه قدر نفسه

بمقدار عين الشمس في فلك الشمس

بمقدار عين الشمس في فلك الشمس

Thus what lay within his soul matched his soul's worth,

on the scale of the sun's disc within the sun's sphere.

وكانت بقايا العز شتى فجمعت

وكانت بقايا العز شتى فجمعت

لخنصره من بين أصبعه الخمس

لخنصره من بين أصبعه الخمس

And the remnants of glory lay scattered, then were gathered

for his little finger, from among his five fingers.

وترقبه العلياء من قبل آدم

وترقبه العلياء من قبل آدم

إلى أن بدا كالنور من حضرة القدس

إلى أن بدا كالنور من حضرة القدس

And the heights of glory had awaited him since before Adam,

until he appeared like light from the Holy Presence.

وعمت نفوس الكون منه بشائر

وعمت نفوس الكون منه بشائر

فكانت مقام الحس من عالم الحس

فكانت مقام الحس من عالم الحس

And glad tidings from him pervaded the souls of creation,

so they held the place of sense within the world of sense.

فبشرى سرير الملك أم مليكه

فبشرى سرير الملك أم مليكه

تنزل منه منزل الروح في النفس

تنزل منه منزل الروح في النفس

Glad tidings, then, to the royal throne: its sovereign has come,

taking his place upon it as the spirit within the soul.
