Calamities have struck me, O Sustainer, and my condition

The afflictions overwhelmed me, O Sustainer, and my state

lies before You, my God, within Your knowledge and power.

Is known to You, my God, in knowledge and ability

ومالي حول يا مقيت لدفعها

ومالي حول يا مقيت لدفعها

ولا دافع دوني يقوم بنصرتي

ولا دافع دوني يقوم بنصرتي

I have no strength, O Sustainer, to repel them,

And I have no power, O Sustainer, to repel them

nor a defender to stand before me and come to my aid.

Nor a defender below me who can come to my aid

رمتني بها قوس القضاء فأثبتت

رمتني بها قوس القضاء فأثبتت

ورميتك الله أثبت رمية

ورميتك الله أثبت رمية

The bow of fate shot them at me and struck home,

The bow of destiny has cast them upon me and affirmed

and Your shot, O God, is the surest of shots.

And I have cast You, my God, as my sure shot

حنانيك تقضي ما تشاء فحلها

حنانيك تقضي ما تشاء فحلها

بقدرتك اللهم من حيث حلت

بقدرتك اللهم من حيث حلت

Mercy, mercy! You decree what You will; dispel them

Your mercy fulfills whatever You wish, so resolve them

by Your power, O God, from wherever they have settled.

O God, by Your power, wherever they have settled

فلي مخرج منها بلطفك رزئها

فلي مخرج منها بلطفك رزئها

وإن جزعت نفسي له وتضنت

وإن جزعت نفسي له وتضنت

Through Your kindness I have a way out of their affliction,

For me there is a way out through Your kindness, dispel them

even if my soul grows distraught at it and wastes away.

And if my soul frets for it and feels distress

مقدرة سيقت بقدرة ربها

مقدرة سيقت بقدرة ربها

وأمرك ربي فوق تلك المسوقة

وأمرك ربي فوق تلك المسوقة

They were decreed, driven by their Lord's power,

A destined decree led by Your Lord's destiny

yet Your command, my Lord, is above those driven afflictions.

And Your command, my Lord, is above that which is led

وكم صعبت ضراء عضت بها اللها

وكم صعبت ضراء عضت بها اللها

فحل عليها لطفه فتجلت

فحل عليها لطفه فتجلت

And how many a hardship grew fierce, making throats clench,

And how many tribulations, whose bitterness I have tasted

then His kindness descended upon it, and it vanished.

Your kindness has resolved upon them and they have vanished

الهي لي روح وجسم كلاهما

الهي لي روح وجسم كلاهما

له منك قوت يا مقيت البرية

له منك قوت يا مقيت البرية

My God, I have a spirit and a body, each of which

My God, I have a soul and body, both

has sustenance from You, O Sustainer of creation.

Obtain from You, O Sustainer of creation, their sustenance

فيسر لروحي قوتها خير حكمة

فيسر لروحي قوتها خير حكمة

ويسر لجسمي قوته خير عيشة

ويسر لجسمي قوته خير عيشة

So make my spirit's sustenance readily available: the finest wisdom,

So facilitate for my soul its sustenance as the best wisdom

and make my body's sustenance readily available: the finest livelihood.

And facilitate for my body its sustenance as the best livelihood

فما ذرة إلا وأنت مقيتها

فما ذرة إلا وأنت مقيتها

كفايتها كل لوجه ونسبة

كفايتها كل لوجه ونسبة

For there is no atom but You are its sustainer,

For there is no atom but You are its Sustainer

providing enough for each, in its own way and measure.

Granting it sufficiency, all for a reason and wisdom
