O Fashioner of existence’s forms, who proportions the

beings as You willed, in whatever form.

الهي زينت الظواهر مطلقاً

وأعطت بالتخصيص نور السريرة

وأعطت بالتخصيص نور السريرة

My God, You adorned outward forms without exception,

And specially bestowed the light of the inner heart.

وميزت من بين البهائم خلقنا

وميزت من بين البهائم خلقنا

وزكيت بالاخلاص نفساً تزكت

وزكيت بالاخلاص نفساً تزكت

And distinguished our created form from among the beasts.

And through sincerity purified a soul that purified itself.

وصورت فينا الغي والرشد والهوى

وصورت فينا الغي والرشد والهوى

فكل له ميل بحكم المشيئة

فكل له ميل بحكم المشيئة

And fashioned within us error, right guidance, and desire.

So each has an inclination, by the decree of the divine will.

وصورت تكميل القوى كل قوة

وصورت تكميل القوى كل قوة

لما خصها في ذاتها من وظيفة

لما خصها في ذاتها من وظيفة

And You fashioned each faculty to perfection,

for the function proper to it in its own nature.

وصورت عرفان النفوس لربها

وصورت عرفان النفوس لربها

فجدت وقامت واستقامت وتمت

فجدت وقامت واستقامت وتمت

And You fashioned the souls’ knowledge of their Lord;

So they strove, arose, grew upright, and reached perfection.

وصورت فيها صورة الخوف والرجا

وصورت فيها صورة الخوف والرجا

فذابت وطابت واختفت وتجلت

فذابت وطابت واختفت وتجلت

And You fashioned within them the form of fear and hope;

So they melted, grew pure, hid themselves, and shone forth.

وصورت أشكال المقامات فانتهت

وصورت أشكال المقامات فانتهت

إليك بها سلاكها واستعدت

إليك بها سلاكها واستعدت

And You fashioned the forms of the spiritual stations; thus came

their wayfarers to You through them, and made themselves ready.

وصورت حب الحق في أنفس صفت

وصورت حب الحق في أنفس صفت

تجلت له فيه به وتحلت

تجلت له فيه به وتحلت

And You fashioned love of the Truth in souls grown pure;

They shone forth for Him, in Him, through Him, and adorned themselves.

الهي كما أحسنت صورة ظاهري

الهي كما أحسنت صورة ظاهري

فاحسن بحب اللّه باطن صورتي

فاحسن بحب اللّه باطن صورتي

My God, as You made my outward form beautiful,

so, through love of God, beautify the inner aspect of my form.

فإنك لم تنظر إلى حسن صورة

فإنك لم تنظر إلى حسن صورة

ولكن إلى حسن القلوب المضيئة

ولكن إلى حسن القلوب المضيئة

For You have not looked at the beauty of a form,

but at the beauty of radiant hearts.
