إلى اللّه أشكو وهو منتقم يداً

إلى اللّه أشكو وهو منتقم يداً

عتت وبغت واستعبدت خير أمة

To God I complain of a hand—while He is the Avenger—

To God I complain—He is the Avenger—of a hand

that rebelled, transgressed, and enslaved the best of nations;

that grew insolent, transgressed, and enslaved the best of communities.

يداً أسفت ذا الانتقام ونازعت

يداً أسفت ذا الانتقام ونازعت

لها الويل حق الكبرياء فشلت

لها الويل حق الكبرياء فشلت

a hand that provoked the Lord of vengeance and challenged

A hand that angered the Lord of vengeance and contested

His rightful majesty—woe to it!—and so it failed.

—woe to it!—His right to majesty; may it be paralyzed!

إلى اللّه أشكو فعلها في عياله

إلى اللّه أشكو فعلها في عياله

وغيرته للحق أعظم غيرة

وغيرته للحق أعظم غيرة

To God I complain of what it has done to His people,

To God I complain of what it has done to His dependents,

for His zeal for truth is the greatest zeal.

and His zeal for justice is the greatest zeal.

الهي جهد العبد أن يرفع الدعا

الهي جهد العبد أن يرفع الدعا

بتوفيقك اللهم عند البلية

بتوفيقك اللهم عند البلية

My God, the utmost a servant can do is raise his prayer,

My God, the servant's utmost effort is to raise his prayer,

by Your enabling, O God, in the hour of affliction.

through Your enabling grace, O God, in time of affliction.

وقد حل بالاسلام ما لست راضياً

وقد حل بالاسلام ما لست راضياً

من الفئة الباغين فوق البسيطة

من الفئة الباغين فوق البسيطة

What You do not approve has befallen Islam

And there has befallen Islam what displeases You,

at the hands of a band of aggressors upon the face of the earth.

from the band of transgressors upon the earth.

وكلمتك العليا وأنت بأخذهم

وكلمتك العليا وأنت بأخذهم

قدير وفي الاملاء أعظم أخذة

قدير وفي الاملاء أعظم أخذة

Yet Your word is supreme, and You are fully able to seize them;

And Your word is supreme, and You, in seizing them,

and in granting respite lies the most terrible seizure.

are all-powerful; and in granting respite lies the greatest punishment.

فعاجلهم بالأخذ واقصم ظهورهم

فعاجلهم بالأخذ واقصم ظهورهم

فقد أصبح الاسلام منهم بذلة

فقد أصبح الاسلام منهم بذلة

So hasten to seize them, and break their backs;

So swiftly seize them, and shatter their backs,

for through them Islam has been brought low.

for Islam has been brought low by them,

كما أمعنوا في الظلم واستلأموا له

كما أمعنوا في الظلم واستلأموا له

ولم يرقبوا في مؤمن حق ذمة

ولم يرقبوا في مؤمن حق ذمة

They have plunged deep into oppression and armed themselves for it,

just as they plunged deep into oppression and donned armor for it,

and have honored no believer’s inviolable covenant.

and respected no covenantal right of any believer.

فعينك بالمرصاد واللّه غالب

فعينك بالمرصاد واللّه غالب

وحزبك منصور وحربك نجدتي

وحزبك منصور وحربك نجدتي

Yet Your eye lies in wait, and God is ever triumphant;

For Your eye lies in wait, and God prevails,

Your host shall prevail, and Your war is my succor.

and Your party is granted victory, and Your war is my rescue.

تجل عليهم باسم منتقم وخذ

تجل عليهم باسم منتقم وخذ

قواهم بوهن وابتدرهم بسطوة

قواهم بوهن وابتدرهم بسطوة

Manifest Yourself against them by the name Avenger, and smite

Manifest Yourself to them under the name of Avenger, and afflict

their strength with weakness; overtake them with overwhelming might.

أبدهم شديد الانتقام وردهم

أبدهم شديد الانتقام وردهم

مرداً وبيلاً بين خزي ولعنة

مرداً وبيلاً بين خزي ولعنة

Annihilate them, O Terrible in vengeance, and send them back

Annihilate them, O stern in vengeance, and drive them back

to a disastrous end, amid disgrace and curse.

in a ruinous return, between disgrace and a curse.
