Sol 6.1

  1. اللّه حي لا يزال ولم يزل

    في ذاته وبذاته ولذاته

    Allah is living, never ceasing and never having ceased,

    in His essence, by His essence, and by virtue of His essence.

  2. لا شيء غير اللّه حي كائن

    للذات قام له وجود حياته

    Nothing other than Allah is a living being

    whose life's existence is grounded in its own essence.

  3. وحقائق الأسماء في اسم الحي إذ

    هو أول الأسماء في مرقاته

    And the realities of the names lie in the name 'the Living,' for

    it is first among the names on its ladder of ascent.

  4. رجعت إليه عين كل حقيقة

    من بعد جامع اسمه وصفاته

    The very essence of every reality has returned to it,

    after that which encompasses His name and attributes.

  5. ومن المحال وجود ذات حقيقة

    لاسم وغير الحي أصل ثباته

    And the existence of any real essence is impossible

    for a name if anything but the Living grounds its permanence.

  6. والحي من تجب الحياة لذاته

    للذات ليس مخارج عن ذاته

    And the Living is He for whom life is necessary by virtue of His essence,

    inherent in the essence, not apart from His essence.

  7. والحي من ليست حياة عينه

    كلا ولا هي بعض غيرياته

    And the Living is He whose life is not His very essence;

    no indeed, nor is it one of the things other than Him.

  8. اللّه حي لا بمعنى زائد

    فيه قديم غير نفي مماته

    Allah is living, not through an added attribute

    eternal within Him, other than the negation of His death.

  9. يكفي وجوب حياته للذات عن

    فوز الحياة مسبباً لثباته

    The necessity of His life for His essence dispenses with

    life's attaining the role of a cause of His permanence.

  10. حياً وجوباً لا لموجب عارض

    فيكون مفتقراً لمفتقراته

    Living by necessity, not through a contingent cause,

    for then He would be dependent on what He needs.

  11. حياً وجوباً لا لكون حياته

    سبباً أقام له وجود حياته

    Living by necessity, not because His life

    is a cause that established for Him the existence of His life.

  12. هذا وقوع الشيء علة ذاته

    ومن المحال الشيء علة ذاته

    This would make a thing the cause of its own essence,

    and it is impossible for a thing to be the cause of its own essence.

  13. ليس اعتدالاً في المزاج ولا قوى

    حس لجنس حياة مبتدعاته

    His life is not a balance of bodily temperament, nor powers

    of sensation of the kind found in His creatures' life.

  14. الذات كاف صحة استلزامها

    دون الوسيطة من قديم صفاته

    The essence suffices to establish its necessary entailment

    of His eternal attributes, without an intermediary.

  15. الواجب الحق القديم يجل عن

    ايجاب واسطة خصوصياته

    The Necessary, the Real, the Eternal is exalted above

    an intermediary's necessitating His distinctive qualities.

  16. تجب الصفات له وليست غيره

    وثوبتها في نفي سلبياته

    The attributes are necessary for Him and are not other than Him;

    and their affirmation lies in negating His negative qualities.

  17. وتجاذب الأسماء موجوداتها

    لحقيقة اسم الحي جمع شتاته

    And the names' mutual drawing of their existent manifestations

    to the reality of the name 'the Living' gathers its scattered parts.

  18. للحي هيمنة على الأسماء من

    حيث الظهور ومجد قيومياته

    The Living holds sway over the names from

    the standpoint of manifestation and the glory of His all-sustaining qualities.

  19. وعلى كمالات الحياة توقفت

    آثار كل اسم بمأثوراته

    And on the perfections of life depend

    the effects of every name in what it brings about.

  20. وظهور كل اسم بنور خصه

    فشعاعه الوقاد من مشكاته

    And every name appears through a light that singles it out;

    so its blazing ray comes from His lamp-niche.

  21. وظهور كل اسم بقوة فعله

    للحي سلطان على قواته

    And every name appears through the power of its action;

    the Living has sovereignty over its powers.

  22. برزت ظهورات الصفات وكلها

    ممدودة من ماء عين حياته

    The manifestations of the attributes have emerged, and all of them

    are sustained by water from the spring of His life.
