الهي سمع اللّه درك لذاته

تجلى له مسموعه بالحقيقة

My God, God’s hearing is apprehension by His very essence;

My God, God's hearing is perception intrinsic to His essence;

what is heard is truly manifest to Him.

What He hears is truly manifest to Him.

الهي سمع الحق ليس بآلة

الهي سمع الحق ليس بآلة

ولا صفة بالذات قامت وحلت

ولا صفة بالذات قامت وحلت

My God, the hearing of the Real is not through an organ,

My God, the True One's hearing is not through an instrument,

nor an attribute that subsists and resides within the Essence.

Nor an attribute that subsists and inheres in His essence.

ولكنه علم قديم مطابق

ولكنه علم قديم مطابق

لماهية المعلوم باللازمية

لماهية المعلوم باللازمية

Rather, it is eternal knowledge corresponding

necessarily to the essence of what is known.

Necessarily to the essential nature of what is known.

سمعت دبيب النمل يا سامع الدعا

سمعت دبيب النمل يا سامع الدعا

على الصخرة الصماء في الحندسية

على الصخرة الصماء في الحندسية

You heard the creeping of ants, O Hearer of prayer,

You have heard the creeping of ants, O Hearer of prayer,

upon the unyielding rock in pitch darkness.

Upon the solid rock in pitch-black darkness.

وليس نداء عن نداء بمشغل

وليس نداء عن نداء بمشغل

لسمعك حكم الفرد فيه ككثرة

لسمعك حكم الفرد فيه ككثرة

No call distracts You from another call;

No call distracts You from another;

to Your hearing, one is as a multitude.

In Your hearing, a single call counts the same as many.

سمعت لحمد الحامدين وصنتهم

سمعت لحمد الحامدين وصنتهم

بحمدك يا ذا الحمد في كل نعمة

بحمدك يا ذا الحمد في كل نعمة

You heard the praisers’ praise and protected them

You have heard the praise of those who praise, and protected them

through Your praise, O Possessor of praise, in every blessing.

Through praise of You, O You to whom praise belongs for every blessing.

سمعت دعاء الخلق حالاً ولهجة

سمعت دعاء الخلق حالاً ولهجة

وسراً وأرواحاً بسر وجهرة

وسراً وأرواحاً بسر وجهرة

You heard all creation’s prayer—in state and utterance,

You have heard creation's prayer, in state and utterance,

in secret and in spirit, whispered and proclaimed.

And in secrets and spirits, in secret and aloud.

الهي صراخي بالدعاء سمعته

الهي صراخي بالدعاء سمعته

وليس دعاء لافتخار وسمعة

وليس دعاء لافتخار وسمعة

My God, You heard my cry of supplication;

My God, You have heard my cry in supplication,

it is not a prayer made for pride or acclaim.

And it is not a prayer for boasting or renown.

ولكن أحاطت بي بحور مصائب

ولكن أحاطت بي بحور مصائب

وأعظمها ذنبي وتسويف توبتي

وأعظمها ذنبي وتسويف توبتي

But seas of afflictions have engulfed me,

But seas of calamity have surrounded me,

the greatest being my sin and my postponement of repentance.

And the greatest of them are my sin and the postponement of my repentance.

سمعت ففرجها بروح ورحمة

وإن لم أكن مستأهلاً للمثوبة

وإن لم أكن مستأهلاً للمثوبة

You heard [my cry]; so dispel them with relief and mercy,

You have heard; so dispel them with relief and mercy,

though I am not deserving of reward.
