الصَدْرُ الأعْظَمُ مقصِدُ المُتَوَسِّلِ

الصَدْرُ الأعْظَمُ مقصِدُ المُتَوَسِّلِ

وَهُوَ المُؤَمَّل في القضاء المُنْزَل

وَهُوَ المُؤَمَّل في القضاء المُنْزَل

The Grand Vizier is the supplicant's destination,

The greatest bosom is the goal of the supplicant

and he is the one looked to when the decree descends.

And it is what is hoped for in the revealed decree

ولذاك من أقصى البلاد أَتَيْتُه

ولذاك من أقصى البلاد أَتَيْتُه

للفوز منه بِبُرْءِ داءٍ مُعْضِل

للفوز منه بِبُرْءِ داءٍ مُعْضِل

And so I came to him from the farthest lands,

And for that reason from the furthest lands I came to him

to gain from him a cure for an intractable ailment.

To gain through him the cure for an obstinate illness

يا مَلْجَأَ الصُّلحاء والعلماء وال

يا مَلْجَأَ الصُّلحاء والعلماء وال

وزرا ومَنْ في النّاس ذو قَدرٍ عَلِيّ

وزرا ومَنْ في النّاس ذو قَدرٍ عَلِيّ

O refuge of the righteous, the scholars, and the

O refuge of the righteous, the scholars and the

ministers, and whoever among people holds lofty rank:

Ministers and the one among the people of the highest rank

كالندِّ أو كالعطر أو كالمسك ما

كالندِّ أو كالعطر أو كالمسك ما

يحويه عِرْضُكَ من ثناءٍ أجمل

يحويه عِرْضُكَ من ثناءٍ أجمل

Like incense, or perfume, or musk is what

Like musk, perfume or ambergris is what

your good name bears of fairest praise,

Your honor contains of the most beautiful praise

فيما حباك اللّه من خُلُقٍ سرى

فيما حباك اللّه من خُلُقٍ سرى

كالرَّاح في الأرواح لا في المفصل

كالرَّاح في الأرواح لا في المفصل

for the character God bestowed on you, which flowed

In what Allah has granted you of sublime character

like wine through souls, not through the joints.

It flows through souls not through joints

وحباك من خَلْقٍ كأنّ الشمسَ في

وحباك من خَلْقٍ كأنّ الشمسَ في

شَرَفٍ تُرَى في وجهك المتهلّل

شَرَفٍ تُرَى في وجهك المتهلّل

And He endowed you with a form, as though the sun at

And He granted you a nature as though the sun in

its height were seen in your beaming face.

Its loftiness appears in your smiling face

اشْفَعْ لنا فيما دهى تِرْشِيشَ مِنْ

اشْفَعْ لنا فيما دهى تِرْشِيشَ مِنْ

إلزامها غُرْمَ الخراج المُثْقَل

إلزامها غُرْمَ الخراج المُثْقَل

Intercede for us concerning what has befallen Tirshish through

Intercede for us regarding what has saddled her

her being compelled to pay the crushing tax.

With the burden of heavy taxation

الفقرُ يمنعها وما تخشاه من

الفقرُ يمنعها وما تخشاه من

شرّ الحوادث في الزّمان المقبِل

شرّ الحوادث في الزّمان المقبِل

Poverty holds her back, as does what she fears of

Poverty prevents her and what she fears of

the harm of events in the time to come.

The evil of events in the coming times

أرجو لك البشرى بِنَيْلِ شفاعةٍ

أرجو لك البشرى بِنَيْلِ شفاعةٍ

تأتيكَ من عند الرسول الأفضل

تأتيكَ من عند الرسول الأفضل

I hope for you glad tidings of gaining intercession

I hope for you the good news of obtaining intercession

that comes to you from the most excellent Messenger.

That comes to you from the most noble Messenger

دَامَتْ عُلاَكَ لمن أحبّك جَنّةً

دَامَتْ عُلاَكَ لمن أحبّك جَنّةً

بنعيمها قلبُ الحواسدِ يَصْطَلِي

بنعيمها قلبُ الحواسدِ يَصْطَلِي

May your eminence remain a paradise for whoever loves you,

May your supremacy last for whoever loves you a paradise

at whose bliss the heart of the envious burns.

With its bounty, while the hearts of enviers blaze
