بماabout what أنزلَrevealed الرحمنُthe Most Merciful فيconcerning الخمرِwine عالمُaware
بما أنزلَ الرحمنُ في الخمرِ عالمُ
Come, my friend, give me wine to drink, for I know well
Come, pour me wine, my friend, for I

وجُدand be generous ليto me بهاwith it صِرفاًunmixed لأَزدادَso that I may increase مَأثماًin sin
وجُد لي بها صِرفاً لأَزدادَ مَأثماً
ففيfor in شُربهاdrinking it صِرفاًunmixed تتِمُّbecome complete المآثمُsins
ففي شُربها صِرفاً تتِمُّ المآثمُ
Be generous and give it to me unmixed, that I may grow in sin;
And give it generously to me, unmixed, that I may increase in sin;
for by drinking it unmixed, sins are brought to completion.
for in drinking it unmixed, sins are made complete.
هيit النّارُthe Fire إِلاَّexcept أنّنيthat I نلتُI attained لذةًpleasure
هي النّارُ إِلاَّ أنّني نلتُ لذةً
وقضَّيتُand I fulfilled أوطاريmy desires وإنand even if لامblamed لائمُa reproacher
وقضَّيتُ أوطاري وإن لام لائمُ
It is the Fire—yet I have tasted pleasure,
It is the Fire, yet I have found pleasure
and fulfilled my desires, though a censor blame me.
