وَلَقَدand indeed نَظَرتُI looked إِلىat الشَّموسِal-Shamus ودونهاand between me and her
وَلَقَد نَظَرتُ إِلى الشَّموسِ ودونها
حَرَجٌa prohibition منfrom الرّحمنِthe Most Merciful غَيرُnot قليلsmall
حَرَجٌ من الرّحمنِ غَيرُ قليل
And indeed I gazed at al-Shamus, though between us stood
no small prohibition from the Most Merciful.
قَدindeed كُنتُI was أحسبُنيI consider myself كأغنىlike the richest واحدٍone man
قَد كُنتُ أحسبُني كأغنى واحدٍ
وَرَدَcame to المدينةMedina عنof زراعةcultivation فولfava beans
وَرَدَ المدينة عن زراعة فول
I had thought myself as little in need of her as the richest man
who came to Medina was of cultivating fava beans.
