ونرى مقام أهلِ الصفا

and behold the station of the people of purity—

And see the station of the people of purity,

the ten well-pleasing ones.

Between Zamzam and the Ḥaṭīm, we shall proclaim my plea.

And between Zamzam and al-Hatim, I proclaim my words.

وعندَ ما نبلُغ مقام

البدرِ الأسعَد

And when we reach the station

نصيح من باب السلام

يا نائرَ الخدّ

we shall call out from the Gate of Peace:

I cry out from the Gate of Peace:

“O radiant-cheeked one,

O you of the radiant cheek!

عبدُك أتى يرعى الذمة

عبدُك أتى يرعى الذمة

من أقصى الأبَعد

من أقصى الأبَعد

your servant has come, honoring the sacred covenant,

Your servant has come to honor the covenant,

from the farthest reaches of remoteness.

From the farthest, remotest place.

امنعني من نار الجحيم يا ذا المعالي

امنعني من نار الجحيم يا ذا المعالي

اعفُ عنّي يا كريم والطُف بحالي

اعفُ عنّي يا كريم والطُف بحالي

Shield me from the fire of Hell, O Possessor of exalted glory.”

Protect me from the fire of Hell, O possessor of lofty honors.

Forgive me, O Generous One, and be gentle with my plight.

غرقتُ في بحر الذنوب

غرقتُ في بحر الذنوب

يا خيرَ هادي

I have drowned in the sea of sins,

O best of guides;

وليس يفيدُ الهروب

وليس يفيدُ الهروب

في يوم التنادي

في يوم التنادي

escape will be of no avail

Guide me to repentance, that we may repent—

يا ذا العلا فضلك عميم اقبل سؤالي

اعف عنّي يا كريم والطُف بحالي

O Possessor of sublimity, Your bounty embraces all; accept my plea.

وبالرضى نثني جهار

With glad approval, we extol aloud

And with approval I openly offer praise

ذوي المهابة

Abū Bakr, ʿAlī, and ʿUmar,

Abu Bakr, Ali, and Umar,

men of awe-inspiring dignity;

عثمان باسمهِ نفتخر

عثمان باسمهِ نفتخر

مع القرابة

مع القرابة

ʿUthmān—in his name we take pride—

Uthman, in whose name I take pride,

together with the Prophet’s kin.

Along with the kinfolk.

قد قادني فعلٌ ذميم إلى المحال

اعفُ عني يا كريم والطف بحالي

A shameful deed has indeed led me toward the impossible.

A blameworthy deed has led me to the impossible.

Forgive me, O Generous One, and be gentle with my plight.

يا رب سألتُك بالصفا

يا رب سألتُك بالصفا

والحجرِ الأسعد

O Lord, I implore You by al-Ṣafā

O Lord, I have asked You by al-Safa

and the Black Stone:

And the most blessed Stone:

أحشرني مع أهل الوفا

أحشرني مع أهل الوفا

بقُربِ محمّد

بقُربِ محمّد

Gather me among the people of fidelity,

Gather me with the faithful,

near Muḥammad.

بهم نلوذ مستعطفا

في كلّ مشهَد

في كلّ مشهَد

Through them we seek refuge, while I plead for compassion,

In them I seek refuge, pleading for compassion,

at every gathering.

My repose and my desire—

My solace and my desire:

the Master of all creation—

The master of all creatures,

حي ساكن في مهجتي

حي ساكن في مهجتي

بين العلائِق

بين العلائِق

is living, dwelling in my heart

Alive, dwelling in my heart's core,

amid all attachments.

Amid the bonds of attachment.

هو الشفيعُ في زلّتي

هو الشفيعُ في زلّتي

عندَ المضائق

عندَ المضائق

He is the intercessor for my lapse

He is the intercessor for my lapse

when straits close in.

In dire straits.

يا من بالأشيا عليم إليكَ مثالي

اعفُ عنّي يا كريم والطف بحالي

O You who know all things, my ideal is directed toward You.

O You who know all things, to You I present my likeness.
