O heart, you visited, yet that burning heartache has not subsided.

How strange—a heart scorched by bliss!

Passion increased, and every effort at patience vanished.

I had struggled to sustain it before the visit, but it fell away.

    And a garden stirred the flame of yearning;

For its sake, the strength of patience came undone.

Rather, my longing grew for the Beloved and Rāmah,

And al-Abraqayn, and what belongs to the bend of Liwā.

By God, my longing for Ṭaybah after

Visiting the Beloved is just the same as before.

A land dearer to the Most High than the heights:

The Messenger alighted there, and there he came to rest.

O soil, unmatched by any other soil,

Within it is healing for every sinner and every malady.

O garden, unmatched by any other garden,

Through the most blessed of those sheltered in the Garden of Refuge.

How long I have lamented for arrival! And when

You brought me there, you scorched me in the fire of heartache.

As though I were a thirsty man who found a drop [reading uncertain],

His fierce thirst doubled, and he remained unquenched.

I swear by Ṭā Hā—he is Yā Sīn—who

    Is mentioned in the mighty Star, when it descends;

And by the span of two bows, where [text unclear] he drew near

To his Lord, possessed of strength, then stood poised.

I shall surely renew my lamentation [last word unclear],

In sorrow over that station and what it held,

Until I die; and should I die bewildered,

Then what we see is every Muslim servant's lot.

O Lord, I ask You for Your good pleasure and pardon for

What has passed, O You who established Yourself upon the Throne.

Free Your servants from the blaze of a fire that tomorrow

Will strip away scalps on the Day of Resurrection,

Through Muḥammad, the chosen one, the seal of His messengers,

Ṭā Hā, who has encompassed the excellence of all.

So upon him be the blessings of the Lord of the heights,

And His peace, as long as Liwā's gray doves sing.
