وهواك لي نصيب

Everyone has a share that comes to them;

Each one has a fate that comes to him,

And love of you is my share.

And you are my fate,

يا حباتي وأنتَ في ذاتي

يا حباتي وأنتَ في ذاتي

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

O my [life], and you are within my being,

O my beloved, you are within my essence,

Present, never absent.

Ever present, never absent.

أنت أسكرتَني على سكري

أنت أسكرتَني على سكري

من قديم الشراب

من قديم الشراب

You intoxicated me upon my drunkenness,

You intoxicated me with my own intoxication,

From wine of old.

From the ancient wine,

ثم خاطبتني كما تدري

ثم خاطبتني كما تدري

ففهِمتُ الخِطاب

ففهِمتُ الخِطاب

Then you addressed me, as you know,

Then you addressed me as you know,

And so I understood the address.

And I understood the address.

ثمَّ صبَّرتَني رقيب ذاتي

ثمَّ صبَّرتَني رقيب ذاتي

وأنتَ كنتَ الرقيب

وأنتَ كنتَ الرقيب

Then you made me steadfast, a watcher over myself,

Then you made me the guardian of my essence

And you were the watcher.

While you were the guardian.

يا حباتي وأنت في ذاتي

يا حباتي وأنت في ذاتي

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

O my [life], and you are within my being,

O my beloved, you are within my essence,

Present, never absent.

Ever present, never absent.

أدخُلِ الحان واشهد المعنى

أدخُلِ الحان واشهد المعنى

كي تنال الأمان

كي تنال الأمان

Enter the tavern and witness the meaning,

Enter the melodies and witness the meaning,

So that you may attain safety.

That you may attain safety,

وتراني بين الدنان تفنى

وتراني بين الدنان تفنى

شاخصاً للدنان

شاخصاً للدنان

And you see me among the wine-jars as you fade away,

And you see me annihilated among the nearer ones,

Gazing at the wine-jars.

Yearning for the nearer ones.

قد سقاني ساقي المدام حقنه

قد سقاني ساقي المدام حقنه

قبل كونِ الزمان

قبل كونِ الزمان

The wine-pourer has indeed given me drink [final word unclear],

The cupbearer of wine has made me drink his filling,

Before time came to be.

Before the existence of time.

أنتَ تدري من يملى طاساتي

أنتَ تدري من يملى طاساتي

أليعُ المجيب

أليعُ المجيب

You know who fills my cups:

You know who dictates my ecstasy,

[Unclear], the Answerer.

Most eloquent respondent.

يا حياتي وأنتَ في ذاتي

يا حياتي وأنتَ في ذاتي

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

O my life, and you are within my being,

O my life, you are within my essence,

Present, never absent.

Ever present, never absent.

أنا شخ الخلاعه عن ذاتي

أنا شخ الخلاعه عن ذاتي

وإمامُ السبعون

وإمامُ السبعون

I am the [shaykh] of wantonness, apart from myself,

I am the one who has shed the garment from my essence,

And leader of the seventy.

And the imam of the seventy,

وحبيبي بِحُسنهِ الذّاتي

وحبيبي بِحُسنهِ الذّاتي

حازَ جمعَ الفنون

حازَ جمعَ الفنون

And my beloved, through his intrinsic beauty,

And my beloved in his essence

Has acquired the sum of the arts.

Has attained the collection of arts.

ولهذا دعاني غاياتي

ولهذا دعاني غاياتي

راحتي في المنون

راحتي في المنون

And so my aims summoned me;

And for this my aspirations called me,

My repose is in death.

My comfort is in death.

أنت صيرتني رقيب ذاتي

أنت صيرتني رقيب ذاتي

وأنت كنتَ الرقيب

وأنت كنتَ الرقيب

You made me a watcher over myself,

You have made me the guardian of my essence,

And you were the watcher.

While you were the guardian.

يا حياتي وأنت في ذاتي

يا حياتي وأنت في ذاتي

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

O my life, and you are within my being,

O my life, you are within my essence,

Present, never absent.

Ever present, never absent.

أنا من عين فضل ساداتي

أنا من عين فضل ساداتي

نلتُ أعلى الرتَب

نلتُ أعلى الرتَب

I, from the wellspring of my masters' bounty,

I am from the spring of my masters' nobility,

Attained the highest ranks.

I attained the highest rank.

وعلى قدرِ علو همَّتي

وعلى قدرِ علو همَّتي

نجتهِد في الطَلَب

نجتهِد في الطَلَب

And according to the loftiness of my aspiration,

And according to the extent of my ambition's height,

We strive in the quest,

I strive in seeking.

حتى قضيت سائر أوقاتي

حتى قضيت سائر أوقاتي

في الغناء والطرب

في الغناء والطرب

Until I spent all my hours

Until I spent all my time

In song and rapture.

In singing and joy,

وسمعتُ الخطاب من ذاتي

وسمعتُ الخطاب من ذاتي

من مكانٍ قريب

من مكانٍ قريب

And I heard the address from my own being,

And I heard the address from my essence,

From a place nearby.

From a near place.

يا حباتي وأتت في ذابي

يا حباتي وأتت في ذابي

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

حاضرٌ لا تغيب

O my [life], and [you] are within my [being],

O my beloved, you are within my essence,

Present, never absent.

Ever present, never absent.
