إن كنتَ ذا اتصال أبصَرتَ في العلا

إن كنتَ ذا اتصال أبصَرتَ في العلا

النورَ متلالي وقد تمثلّا

النورَ متلالي وقد تمثلّا

If you have attained communion, you will see on high

If you have a connection, you have seen in the sublime

The light shimmering, having taken form.

The radiant light manifesting.

حالَ المحب ناطق

حالَ المحب ناطق

بحال أمرهِ

بحال أمرهِ

The lover's state speaks

The state of the lover speaks

Of the condition of his affairs.

Of the state of his affair.

من ميّزَ الدقائق

من ميّزَ الدقائق

بعين فكرهِ

بعين فكرهِ

Whoever discerns the subtleties

He who discerns subtleties

With the eye of his thought,

With the eye of his mind

لاحت لهُ الحقائق

لاحت لهُ الحقائق

من دير سره

من دير سره

Truths shine forth for him

Realities are revealed to him

From the monastery of his inner secret.

From the monastery of his secret.

وكان ذا جمال من نورهِ انجلا

وكان ذا جمال من نورهِ انجلا

لذلك الجمال والنور والحلا

لذلك الجمال والنور والحلا

And he was endowed with beauty, revealed through his light,

He has a beauty of light from His light manifest.

To that beauty, light, and sweetness.

For that beauty, light and splendor

أتدّعي هوانا

أتدّعي هوانا

وتُظهر الخلاف

وتُظهر الخلاف

Do you claim to love us,

Do you claim lowliness

Yet display opposition,

And show disagreement

وتبتغي رضانا

وتبتغي رضانا

ما منك ذا إنتصاف

ما منك ذا إنتصاف

And seek our approval?

And seek our pleasure

This is no fairness on your part.

There is no justice in you.

فخلِّ من سوانا

فخلِّ من سوانا

تُسقى الرضا أو تشاف

تُسقى الرضا أو تشاف

So forsake all besides us;

So leave our intimacy

You will be given contentment to drink, or be healed.

To be quenched or healed.

يا طالبَ الوصال من سيّدٍ علا

يا طالبَ الوصال من سيّدٍ علا

إنّ الوصال غالي وما غلا حلا

إنّ الوصال غالي وما غلا حلا

O seeker of union with an exalted master,

O seeker of union with the Exalted Master

Indeed, union is costly, and whatever is costly is sweet.

Union is precious and nothing precious comes cheap.

عُشّاقُنا فنونٌ

عُشّاقُنا فنونٌ

كلٌّ لهُ مقام

كلٌّ لهُ مقام

Our lovers are of many kinds;

Our lovers are diverse

Each has a station.

Each has his state.

هذا به جنونٌ

هذا به جنونٌ

وذا به هُيام

وذا به هُيام

This one is seized by madness,

This one is possessed by madness

And that one by love's frenzy.

That one by passion.

وسِرُّنا مصونٌ

وسِرُّنا مصونٌ

قد أعجزَ الأنام

قد أعجزَ الأنام

And our secret is guarded;

And our secret is protected

It has baffled humankind.

It has confounded people.

فدَع منَ المحالِ واخضَع تذللا

فدَع منَ المحالِ واخضَع تذللا

لذلك الجمال والنور والحلا

لذلك الجمال والنور والحلا

So leave the impossible, and bow in humility

So leave the impossible and submit humbly

To that beauty, light, and sweetness.

For that beauty, light and splendor.

اجعل وصفكَ ذُلّا

اجعل وصفكَ ذُلّا

وكُن عبداً مُقيم

وكُن عبداً مُقيم

Make humility your defining trait,

Make your description lowliness

And be a steadfast servant.

And be a devoted servant.

ما في الوجودِ إلّا

ما في الوجودِ إلّا

إلهُنا العظيم

إلهُنا العظيم

There is nothing in existence but

There is nothing in existence

Our God, the Magnificent.

Except our Supreme God.

للطورِ قد تجلّى

للطورِ قد تجلّى

وكلّمَ الكَليم

وكلّمَ الكَليم

To the Mount He revealed Himself,

He revealed Himself to the Mount

And spoke to His interlocutor.

And spoke to the Kalim.

قد لاح في السؤال مذ لاح وانجلا

قد لاح في السؤال مذ لاح وانجلا

في حضرة الكمال نورٌ تهلّلا

في حضرة الكمال نورٌ تهلّلا

He has shone forth in supplication since He appeared and was unveiled.

In supplication, light manifest since it manifest.

In the presence of perfection, a light beamed forth.

In the presence of Perfection, light gladdened.

هواهُ في الضمير

هواهُ في الضمير

والقَلبِ لا يزول

والقَلبِ لا يزول

Love for him, within the inmost self

His love in the conscience

And the heart, never fades:

And heart does not fade.

The Chosen One, the bearer of glad tidings,

Al-Mustafa the Herald

The Master, the Messenger.

The Master of Messengers

بصفح عن الفقير

يصغى لما يقول

يصغى لما يقول

With pardon for the poor one,

He forgives the destitute

He listens to what he says.

And listens to what he says.

يا منزلَ الآمال حييتَ منزِلا

يا منزلَ الآمال حييتَ منزِلا

فما أنا بذلٍ عنهُ وإن سلا

فما أنا بذلٍ عنهُ وإن سلا

O abode of hopes, hail to you as a dwelling!

O destination of hopes, you have pitched camp

For I am not [unclear wording] away from him, even if he forgets.

As for me, I do not refrain from Him even if forgotten.
