دارت علينا كؤوس من خمرهِ البالي

دارت علينا كؤوس من خمرهِ البالي

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

Goblets of His ancient wine passed round among us,

Cups of his aged wine went round among us.

And souls find no delight except among the likes of me.

And souls find no delight except with the likes of me.

دارَت علينا كؤوس

في حضرة المحبوب

في حضرة المحبوب

Goblets passed round among us

Cups went round among us

In the Beloved’s presence,

In the presence of the Beloved.

وأهلُ للماني جلوس

وأهلُ للماني جلوس

ومن دخل يشرَب

ومن دخل يشرَب

While the people of spiritual meaning sat together;

And the people of meaning are seated [reading uncertain].

Whoever entered drank.

And whoever enters drinks.

ولا تطيبُ النفوس

ولا تطيبُ النفوس

إلّا لمن يقربُ

إلّا لمن يقربُ

Souls find no delight

And souls find no delight

Except for one who draws near.

Except for one who draws near.

بحر المعاني تغوص هذاك هو حالي

بحر المعاني تغوص هذاك هو حالي

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

You plunge into the ocean of meanings—that is my state.

Into the sea of meanings you dive; that is my state.

And souls find no delight except among the likes of me.

And souls find no delight except with the likes of me.

سقوني ساداتي

سقوني ساداتي

خمراً لها ألوانِ

خمراً لها ألوانِ

My masters gave me drink—

My masters gave me to drink

A wine of many hues—

A wine of many hues,

لتنقضي حاجاتي

لتنقضي حاجاتي

وحوائجُ الإخوان

وحوائجُ الإخوان

So that my needs might be fulfilled,

So that my needs might be fulfilled

And the needs of the brethren.

And the needs of the brethren.

ومن حضر حضرَتي

ومن حضر حضرَتي

يظهر له البرهان

يظهر له البرهان

Whoever attends my gathering

And whoever comes into my presence,

Will see the proof revealed.

The proof appears to him.

شرَقت علينا الشموس في الوقتِ والحالِ

شرَقت علينا الشموس في الوقتِ والحالِ

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

Suns dawned upon us in the moment and the spiritual state,

The suns rose upon us in the moment and the state.

And souls find no delight except among the likes of me.

And souls find no delight except with the likes of me.

من خمرِ أهل التُقى

من خمرِ أهل التُقى

إسقوني يا ناس

إسقوني يا ناس

Of the wine of the people of piety,

From the wine of the people of piety,

Give me drink, O people—

Give me drink, O people:

محفوفةٌ بالبقا

محفوفةٌ بالبقا

ممزوجةٌ في الكاس

ممزوجةٌ في الكاس

Enfolded in everlasting life,

Enfolded in everlastingness,

Blended in the cup.

ما هي بثمن الفلوس وقدرُها غالي

It cannot be bought with coins, and precious is its worth.

It is not priced in coins, and its worth is high.

And souls find no delight except among the likes of me.

And souls find no delight except with the likes of me.

غرستُ في حضرتي

غرستُ في حضرتي

شجرةُ منَ التوحيد

شجرةُ منَ التوحيد

Within my presence I planted

I planted in my presence

A tree sprung from Divine Unity.

A tree of divine unity.

الأصلُ في قبضتي

الأصلُ في قبضتي

والفرعُ صار يزيد

والفرعُ صار يزيد

Its root is in my grasp,

The root is in my grasp,

And its branch continues to grow.

And the branch began to grow.

ولا يجني ثمرتي

ولا يجني ثمرتي

إلّا ذووا التجريد

إلّا ذووا التجريد

None may reap my fruit

And no one gathers my fruit

Except those endowed with utter detachment.

Except those who practice detachment.

وعلت فوقَ الرؤوس عزّاً وإجلالِ

وعلت فوقَ الرؤوس عزّاً وإجلالِ

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

ولا تطيبُ النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

It rose above all heads in might and majesty.

And it rose above the heads in glory and reverence.

And souls find no delight except among the likes of me.

And souls find no delight except with the likes of me.

نوصيك يا من حضر

نوصيك يا من حضر

لا تقربِ الشجرَ

لا تقربِ الشجرَ

I counsel you, whoever is present:

I counsel you, O you who are present:

Do not approach the tree

Do not approach the trees

إلّا بلمحِ البصَر

إلّا بلمحِ البصَر

وصُحبةِ الفقرا

وصُحبةِ الفقرا

Except with the contemplative gaze

Except with a glance of the eye

And the companionship of the Sufi poor.

And the company of the poor.

إذا جنَيت الثمر

إذا جنَيت الثمر

من علَّتك تبرا

من علَّتك تبرا

If you gather the fruit,

When you gather the fruit,

You will be cured of your affliction;

You recover from your ailment.

تجول بين الغروس عزّاً وإجلالِ

تجول بين الغروس عزّاً وإجلالِ

ولا تطيب النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

ولا تطيب النفوس إلّا بأمثالي

You will roam among the plantings in might and majesty.

You roam among the planted trees in glory and reverence.

And souls find no delight except among the likes of me.

And souls find no delight except with the likes of me.
