ستعلمyou will learn أنthat رأيكyour judgment رأيa judgment سوءٍbadness
ستعلم أن رأيك رأي سوءٍ
إذاwhen ظِلُّthe shade of الأمارةauthority عنكfrom you زالاhas vanished
إذا ظِلُّ الأمارة عنك زالا
You will learn that your judgment is a poor judgment,
You will know your opinion is wrong
When the shade of authority has left you,
When the signs of nobility leave you
وراحَand departed بنوthe sons of أبيكyour father ولستَand you are not فيهمamong them
وراحَ بنو أبيك ولستَ فيهم
بذيone possessed of ذكرٍrenown يزيدهمadds to them جَمالاsplendor
بذي ذكرٍ يزيدهم جَمالا
And your father's sons depart, while among them you are not
And your father's sons are gone, while you
One whose renown adds to their splendor.
Are not among them, a name to grace them
هناكthere تذكَّرُyou remember الأسلافَthe forefathers منهمof theirs
هناك تذكَّرُ الأسلافَ منهم
إذاwhen الليلُthe night القصيرُshort عليكupon you حالاhas fallen
إذا الليلُ القصيرُ عليك حالا
Then you will remember their forefathers,
There you will remember your ancestors
When the short night falls upon you.
When the short night comes upon you
