إذا اعتكرت ظلماء ليلٍ ونوّمت
عيونُeyes رجالٍof men واستلذواand they delighted in المضاجِعاthe beds
عيونُ رجالٍ واستلذوا المضاجِعا
When the darkness of night thickens and sleep closes
men’s eyes, and they delight in their beds,
سماadvanced نحوَtoward جارneighbor البيتِof the house يَستامsoliciting عرسَهhis wife
سما نحوَ جار البيتِ يَستام عرسَه
يزيدYazid دبيباًcreeping للمعاناةِfor the pursuit قابعاcrouching
يزيد دبيباً للمعاناةِ قابعا
He makes for the next-door neighbor, soliciting the man’s wife—
Yazid, creeping along, crouching in his pursuit.
وإنand if إمكنتهshe gave him an opening جارةُfemale neighbor البيتِof the house أوor رنتshe gazed
وإن إمكنته جارةُ البيتِ أو رنت
إليهtoward him أتاهاhe came to her بعدafter ذلكthat طائعاwillingly
إليه أتاها بعد ذلك طائعا
And if the woman next door gives him an opening, or gazes
toward him, he comes to her afterward, willingly.
