Raqāsh threatened me in ignorance; would that I

and every Raqāshī on earth were bound by one rope!

So, up Ḥuḍayn’s arse, and the arse of the mother who cast him forth!

What a wretched lodging for a guest in a time of drought!

And if I do not leave Raqāsh and their host

more abject beneath humiliation’s tread than a sandal,

then may my hands be palsied, and may I follow, instead of guidance,

another path, and never be granted success in goodness or virtue!

Huge of testicle, scant of beard, a mine of obscenity,

misers with provisions in plenty and in want.

When safe from time’s afflictions, they mate with one another,

as dogs mate in darkness and fear.

But if time bites them with a stroke of misfortune,

then their timber is weaker than markh and tamarisk.

Lions of Sharā amid the assembly—foxes

when war closes in, its cauldrons boiling.
