  1. أُحبُّ على لذاذتنا شقيقا

    وأبغضُ مثلَ ثعلبةَ الثقيل

    I love Shaqiq at our revels,

    and hate the likes of tiresome Thaʿlaba.

  2. له غمُّ على الجُلساءِ مُؤذٍ

    نوافِلُه إذا شربوا قليل

    His gloom distresses his companions;

    his gifts are few when they drink.
