Youth’s procession passes me by
The east wind's envoy passes by me,
as night fulfills its appointed term.
And night breathes its last.
مَرَّpassed بِرَوضٍthrough a meadow زاهِرٍflowering
ذَرَّsprang up عَلَيهِupon it عُشبُهُits grass
It passed through a meadow in bloom;
It passed through a flowering meadow,
the meadow’s grass showered it with scent.
Where its grass had sprung up.
فَخِلتُهُso I thought it مِنbecause of طيبِهِits fragrance
نَشوَةَa waft of fragrance مَنthe one whom أُحِبُّهُI love him
So, from its perfume, I fancied it
So, from its fragrance, I took it for
the rapture of the one I love.
A waft of scent from the one I love.
