قَد تَخَطّاكَ شَبابُ

قَد تَخَطّاكَ شَبابُ

وَتَغَشّاكَ مَشيبُ

وَتَغَشّاكَ مَشيبُ

Youth has already passed you by,

Youth has passed you by

And gray hair has covered you.

And old age has overtaken you.

فَأَتى ما لَيسَ يَمضي

فَأَتى ما لَيسَ يَمضي

وَمَضى ما لا يَؤوبُ

وَمَضى ما لا يَؤوبُ

So what will not pass has come,

What comes has no retreat,

And what will not return has passed.

And what goes does not return.

فَتَأَهَّب لِسِقامٍ

فَتَأَهَّب لِسِقامٍ

لَيسَ يَشفيهِ طَبيبُ

لَيسَ يَشفيهِ طَبيبُ

So prepare yourself for an illness

Prepare yourself for sickness

That no physician can cure.

That no doctor can cure.

لا تَوَهَّمهُ بَعيداً

لا تَوَهَّمهُ بَعيداً

إِنَّما الآتي قَريبُ

إِنَّما الآتي قَريبُ

Do not imagine it far away:

Do not think it far away -

Indeed, what is coming is near.

What is to come is near.
