داويتكُم حيناً فأبطرتكم

وليس للعير سوى الضربِ

I treated you for a while, and made you insolent;

I tended you for a time, and so made you insolent.

For a donkey, there is nothing but a beating.

And for the ass there is nothing but blows.

أقسم لا داريتكم بعدها

أقسم لا داريتكم بعدها

لكن أداري دونكُم قلبي

لكن أداري دونكُم قلبي

I swear I shall not humor you after this;

I swear I shall not humor you after this,

Instead of you, I shall humor my heart.

but shall soothe my heart instead of you.
