You debased my satire, O son of ʿUrwa, and so fell
You reviled me, son of Urwah, so move aside,
Upon me the reproaches of people far and near.
The people blame me for attacking you, far and near,
وَقالواand they said أَتَهجوdo you satirize مِثلَهُone like him فيin سُقوطِهِhis baseness

And they said, “Would you satirize one as base as he?”
And said, “How could you satirize a fallen man like him?”
So I told them, “I tested my sword on a dog.”
I said to them, “I tested my sword on a dog.”
